Was just thinking this team doesnt have much difference with the 2000s team in the sense that we can extrapolate their strength into the current scenario

2000s Fab 4: All 4 40 plus average with 2 > 50 in Sachin and Dravid

Sachin

Dravid

Laxman

Ganguly

Current Fab 4 : All 4 40 plus average with Kohli above 50 and Pujara near about.

Kohli

Pujara

Rohit

Rahane

Opener in 2000 Sehwag ..Current : Gill

Spinners 2000: Kumble Harbhajan

Spinners Now: Ashwin Jadeja

Wk Dhoni from 2005

Wk now : Pant

Fast bowlers: Zaheer Khan Pathan Balaji Sreesanth Ishant RP Singh ( 2000s)

Fast bowlers now way better in New Ishant, Shami, Bumrah, Umesh, Siraj, Bhuvi

Though the mindboggling fact is we won same number of SENA tests in both decades

2000 to 2010 : ( 2 in Australia, 2 in England, 1 in Nz and 2 in South Africa) : Total 7 plus 2 In Pakistan.

2011 to Current: 7 ( 4 in Australia, 2 in England, 1 in South Africa) : Total 7, though we came close to winning 4 more in Wellington, Jo berg, Edgbaston and Sydney wash out.

Not really, Dravid much superior to Pujara and same with Laxman over Rahane. And Rohit is a joke of a Test player. Will make merry in India.

But success of Pant covers alot of the shortfalls

Around 2011 these were supposed to be the new fab 4 but I think fell short. Bowling has more than made up though.

Kohli < Sachin

Pujara < Dravid

Rahane < Laxman

Rohit < Ganguly

Actually they are all one step below

Kohli = Dravid

Pujara = Laxman

Rahane = Ganguly

Rohit has hardly played much

No Sachin equivalent

Ashwin > Kumble

Jadeja > Bhajji

Bumrah > Zak

Ishant/Shami/Umesh etc > old Ishant/Irfan/Munaf/RP/Sreesanth

Pant and Gill might tilt the scales though.

Nah, not even close if you include Rohit and Rahane. But if Gill and Pant continue their momentum it will be close to Fab 4. For me Dada was never part of fab 4, a Rahane class player.

We have Magnificent Seven: Bumrah, Ishant, Shami, Siraj, Umesh, Jaddu, Ash.....3 of them out of action and yet we are comfortably placed for Eng series. Imagine 3 of Viru/Sachin/Dravid/VVS missing a home series in the 2000s :laugh:...goti in muh situation.

Pujara has below or around 30 in NZ, sa and eng. I think some 19 or 21 in NZ, 24 around insa. It's pakistaniesq avg. He is far far away from dravid. Only in aus he is ahead of dravid. Even in wi and eng Pujara has very bad avg around 31. . He is only successful in aus like sehwag.

In England jaddu avg better than pujara and rahane

Pujara has average records in Eng SA & NZ & WI..  Rohit lmfao..  Rahane lolzzz

At the moment our batting order requires every bit of the contribution it can muster to reach 350+.  Gill & Pant have somehow added extra dimension to a poor batting lineup.  Jaddu & Pant are performers in English conditions..  So we can rest easy if Gill also scores at the top hopefully.

current group of  4 of senior most in Kohli, Pujara,Rahane & Rohit are atleast 4 levels below FAB4 of Sachin,Dravid,Sourav & Laxman. If we add Sehwag  & another batsman from this era into the mix , the gap gets even wider.

Way to overrate them.
