If these laws were so bad, protests would be huge in most of UP, Bihar, Bengal, Orissa, Andhra - all states where farmers are way poorer than Punjab farmers. These protests may be only for 2 reasons: 1. Either it is just political vandetta or 2. Laws help poor farmers, but are bad for well off farmers of Punjab who earn. They are being selfish and want poor farmers to remain poor. Supporters of protest like carry same idea and hate states like Bihar, Orissa, Andhra, MP, CG, etc. They probably believe that these states don't deserve to do better and ready to hold country at ransom to ensure that they remain backward. coffee_rules 1

Everyone who opposed the administration had a political vendetta in the eyes of bjpian. Farmers have real concerns, as I have repeatedly stated in my posts. Yes, they can vote out the BJP, they are presently working hard to persuade people of the government's terrible intentions, and the effect was felt in Bengal. Don't expect BJP to rule indefinitely, they will be deposed at some point. People will eventually kick out these hitlers like how they kicked out congress. Indwin, Khota and Under_Score 3

Jimmy Cliff Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Quote The intent appears to be to consolidate farms to achieve economies of scale and usher in the industrial age of farming. Brilliant! But the law is tilted in favour of the corporates. As with the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce Act, 2020, and even in this Act, as per Chapter 3 on dispute settlement, clause 14(7), the amount payable by the farmer in case of breach of contract may be recovered “as arrears of land revenue”. Now, “arrears of land revenue” is a term used in the Revenue Recovery Act, 1890. That Act instructs the “Collector” to recover from a farmer in his district dues payable elsewhere, certified by another “Collector”, as if it were an ‘arrear of land revenue’ in his own district. It authorises him to prohibit any sale or alienation of the property through a proclamation and, as per clause 6(2), withdraw the proclamation “when either the amount stated in the certificate has been recovered or the property has been sold for the recovery of that amount”. While Chapter 3(15) of FAPAFS 2020 prohibits action for recovery against the farmer’s agricultural land, what it means in practice is left to be seen. On top of that, in case of any dispute, the farmer again has no recourse to civil courts—the fundamental right available to all citizens of India. The farmer can go back again only to the SDM—whose superior, the Collector is the one executing the recovery of money—or further appeal the “Collector” himself! After 248 years since the post ‘Collector’ was created (to do institutionalised collections for a company in India), we seem to have come full circle. Obviously these protests are against those 90% some of them (e.g. Bihari farmers) happen to be 5 times poorer than Punjab farmers. Not suprising that protestors want to crush hopes of poorest section of society and keep them poor. This protest is about equitable distribution of money and empowering all farmers. All includes Bihar. If it is not a popular movement they will lose elections annd it will fizzle out. Under_Score 1

Do you not think even the so called poor farmer is leaching off environment and tax payer by subsidies and indiscriminate usage of chemicals? And also by blocking any move to become a tax payer? I would say the farmers and the Ambani are same. Both are selfish business men. One influences through money and another through votes. Ex:- My mom's ancestral village had a strong stream flowing in middle. That was 50 years back. Now a days the selfish farmers are using the free power to pump all the stream water to their fields. Now the stream is mostly dry.
