He hasa IDI century and played a few other impactful innings too, but NatWest is his best and brightest moment. Kaif had a very stupid moment. Tendulkar Karthik redux.. original version Of all Ganguly s innings my personal opinion is the best innings he ever played ( and I think it will be within top 5 in overseas chase for all Indian batsmen) was in Kandy 2001 against Srilanka in their heydays. Muralitharan and Vaas in their prime. Both Tendulkar and Laxman was out with injuries and Ganguly lost the toss and Srilanka managed 274. India got bowled out for 232 giving Lankans a lead of 42.. Venkatesh Prasads best bowling in tests 5/72 followed with Zaheers 4 for and Lankas were shot out for 221 giving India a 4th innings chase of 264. Ganguly was absolutely brilliant along with Dravid (75) and they had a partnership of 91 runs. Dravid fell and Kaif came to bat. So India were only 3 down and score was 260. Vaas bowling and Kaif on strike. Ganguly not out 98 on opposite end waiting for his ton.. inexplicably out of the blue Kaif hacks a leg side boundary and India won. Lol. I still remember ganguly s face. Stunned. He couldnt believe it. Stood there flummoxed. Then Kaif came and hugged him and Ganguly then raised his arms. Commentory team was also absolutely gobsmacked. Lol. But overall we often forget that ridiculous chase.. unfortunately as it happens India lost the next match and series 2-1.. AuxiliA 1

This was also the series where S Ramesh played his last game for India.

addicted4444 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Venkatesh Prasad for the 1996 World Cup match against Pakistan. It’s not fair to include him because he was the #2 bowling option for India for a long time, and is the inventor of the concept of bowling slower deliveries in the death overs. And he had several MoMs and match changing bowling innings besides. However, anytime one mentions him, that one incident against Aamir Sohail looms large. It was arguably the most memorable single incident in Indian cricket in either the 90s or 2000s. nevada 1
Vk1 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Thread intention was perhaps to list players who were kind of one hit wonders.. not the best performance of avg players nevada and Vijy 2
Vijy Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Just now, Vk1 said: Thread intention was perhaps to list players who were kind of one hit wonders.. not the best performance of avg players yes, it has deviated quite a bit. returning back to the original theme of the thread, I will nominate Charles "Father" Marriott - only bowler to take a 10-fer in his only test and never play again. given that a 10-fer is like a 200, it's akin to scoring a 200 and never playing again.

Those players who have had great careers but are remembered for that one incident/innings? I remember Kambli for crying when we lost some WC game. Don't recall the details, I was far too young/uninterested. Also, Dhoni will be remembered for that WC winning 6, even though he's had a stellar career.

Jayasurua and Kaluwitharna gone without scoring.Brilliant Srinath. Srilanka still scored 250 odd due to de silva and gurusinha. India going great guns chasing with Sachin in flow and our famous commentator Manju in tow.. then suddenly Sachin gets stumped ( he went out of the crease, ball hit his legs and he couldnt see it.. wk did the rest). Pin drop silence. 100,000 spectators.. me exactly on the mid on boundary stand with a WILLS Plackard 4.... ball started spinning massively.. we collapsed and then the fire began. People started burning the plackards and newspapers and bottles were thrown in the field..match was abandoned... Lanka won.. there was a story that some official had planted this rumor among spectators that if match gets abandoned then there will be a rematch and india might win .. what a fool... the lasting memory of Kambli crying and being taken out of the field is still etched in my memory..apparently Azhars luckiest ground was Eden ( scored his debut century here, won Hero cup and also was MOS in Hero cup) and so the groundsman had told Azhar categorically to bat first as it would spin later. Azhar after winning the toss chose to bowl only because in a group league match Lankans had chased down a 270 Plus Indian target with ease and Jaysuryas assault in that match had made Manoj Prabhakar bowl spin..anyways India lost the match.. Azhar lost captaincy and within 6 months the flagbearers of modern Indian cricket the fab 4 came into existence and took shape for the first time.. who knows what would have happened to Indian cricket if Azhar had batted and India had won the world cup..maybe in some alternate universe..
