Yoda-esque Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 You talking about “pinda daanum”? The government or practical norm should be let authorities handle cremation and last rites. We had to choose that for an uncle with no other option, it is not “normal” times. Sorry assuming somethings here.I hope nobody has to see their loved ones on zoom being sent into the incinerator Really no comeback from that .. Jimmy Cliff, coffee_rules, dial_100 and 2 others 5
ravishingravi Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Highest deaths today for any single day. This should hopefully start tapering off from May end. But we will touch 40 deaths per million by end of this cycle. Yoda-esque and G_B_ 2

ravishingravi Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 But for love of god I can’t figure why so many deaths in Maharashtra. It’s almost 30% of total number with less 10 % of India’s population. Each state has not captured the numbers correctly but just going by what they have disclosed, this is an insane. Maharashtra model has 1.5% death rate. I just can’t understand this. Even during Spanish flu MH was highest effected in terms of deaths. Nearly 2 million if I recall. Apart from being possible epicentre I can’t figure why.

It will once again start from Maharashtra. But it wont be as bad as the first.

At this point astrologers and virologists have roughly the same success rate with predictions.

My uncle (who survived) got treated in Vapi, Valsad. But a lot of deaths of people from Maharashtra were reported from Gujarat. So there is a big undercount there itself. I suspect its what caused the covid wave to be pushed into Gujarat.

I don’t know how the healing will happen or how long it will take. But it has been darkest chapter in my living memory. And this has come as knockout blow. In first wave everyone was scared and ready. Here we were all reckless and it has hammered us. I still say it had not nearly done the damage given the intensity of variant. It’s just pure miracle that while lives have been lost so many are recovering. Many heart breaking stories. Protecting children in third wave becomes top priority now. beetle and G_B_ 1 1

Are they being made aware that situation isnt normal out. With rural india....supply if information also matters. Like with vaccine if they are hesitent it need to be made sure they are given proper awareness. Communication is the key specially to rural india Rahi baat ppl not following it , gadhe to urban india men bhi bhare hue hai. But as 2nd wave was coming i dnt think ppl were alerted much. Comman ppl cant guess as its going to have 2nd wave. People starting going back to normal life and this is where every govt needed to step in being proactive. Our situation depends on reaction vs proactive People are still without masks. If people dropping dead around them is not going to make them understand, nothing else is. What else needs to be informed? Haven't we all got sick of the information everytime we call. There are posters everywhere informing people. You can't open the tv without getting information. Even in urban areas the thele waalas etc are not wearing masks properly . They wear it on the chin and pull it up if police is nearby or if customers object. We can't excuse the behavior of the people in general. We are horrible with social responsibilities . Coupled with lack of medical infrastructure and discipline....we were just waiting for this disaster. We got away lightly the first time....we still haven't learnt a lesson . God knows what hell the 3rd wave will bring. Earlier when I used to see people without masks,I used to think ,what idiots....now I just want to thrash the hell out of them . They deserve to be thrashed and punished. Mask is the symbol of our social responsibility . If people can't even do that...then other stuff is just impossible. We are counting covid parients but many suffering from ailments like cancer have had no support either. Thats as good as a death sentence. I have not lost any relatives to covid. Lost 1 aunt to cancer which was diagnosed too late as the hospitals were full. We will know truth of the wave in 2022. India imo will have had 1.5 to 2million excess deaths between 2020 and 2022. dial_100 1

U really think horse trading happens without.....srsly what world are u living in Quote There was 0 prep. People were escaping to hospitals in Nashik cause the situation in mumbai was that bad. We ensured that an elderly relative was actually moved to Surat cause from mumbai for treatment. Imagine driving 300 km cause even satellite cities like Thane and Kalyan Dombivali were terrible. The deaths in mumbai and maharashtra were higher per capita compared to other cities even during the first wave. On what basis are you making the bolded statement? The relative I speak to is the head of Sion hospital. Not once has he had any help from the BMC in getting oxygen. It was actually TATA who aided him. ur relative isnt the only person , go on SM and i have been working in circulating help so i knw we didnt face as much issue in Mumbai as in delhi UP or now in GOA . That much of a problem doesnt mean their was 0 cases of patients struggling, their have been few infact more then few but mumbai never faced a chaos when it comes to bed or oxygen. Difference between word chaos n some having issue Mumbai is handled by BMC and im talking about only mumbai , BMC doesnt cover Maharashtra. Other parts of maharashtra are in problem. Death number of cases arent the ideal way to judge states, its how much of medical facility they are able to put up. How do you even judge when most arent even posting real numbers on anything In case of Mumbai its been BMC rather then state govt. On what basis??? Dude i live in Mumbai we have been working day in day out providing help so yea i knw Edited May 18, 2021 by Ankit_sharma03

Given the population density of Mumbai a city proper of 12 million. I think we are very much headed for the second wave to end , late June. which is 1.5 months away. We can also see that Kerala which was one of the earlier hit states is now also declaring positivity under 5% which suggests the wave is over. Delhi which was a region hit just after Mumbai Kerala etc has a positivity rate hovering around 6%. Mumbai cases going down n up depends a lot on Dharavi, when local trains opened cases shot up. Last yr also cases went down when dharavi was controlled...this yr its been same. To control Mumbai u need to control dharavi n local trains

In the first wave mumbai experienced excess deaths which even cities like Delhi Bangaluru and Chennai did not expirience. How has the BMC performed well? Its the same in neighbouring places like Thane. So its not just a Mumbai thing. beetle 1
