The Realist Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 Has to be one of the true icons of India. Inspirational and humbling. Is this history of standing up to Islamic tyranny taught in India? Or is it airbrushed as usual for appeasement? chewy, SecondSlip, coffee_rules and 3 others 1 5
rageaddict Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 (edited) The brutal manner in which the Guru was killed and the reasons behind it would bring up some uncomfortable facts that go against the Secular narrative in India . So it's best to brush it under the carpet and pretend that nothing ever happened. However, it's was really heartwarming to see Modi visit the martyrdom site and pay tribute to the Guru. If I am not wrong , this was a historical event in the context of Sikhism. Sikhism , which was mostly a spiritual movement before turned fully organized and aggressive against the Islamists after the killing of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Sikhs stopped being sitting ducks and developed a fighting spirit that still lives on. Edited May 1, 2021 by rageaddict coffee_rules and chewy 2
Khota Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 Aurangzeb was the worst mankind had seen. The story goes he would get a "mun" of junaius before going to bed(junaiu being the thread that hindus wore). There was jazia (sharia tax on infidels) on all non muslims. He was a despicable and messed up person. Atrocities under him reached the peak. He ordered the death of Guru Tegh bahadur. Everytime when I would travel on Aurangzeb Rd in Delhi it would really upset me. It is really heart warming to see PM Modi visit Sis ganj Gurudwara. coffee_rules, kepler37b and Laaloo 1 2
Clarke Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Beheading is bad BUT renaming of Aurangzeb road is communal & fascist.

Whilst Aurangazeb is universally despised in India (barring exceptions from the usual crowd), he is venerated in Pakistan. Who in their right mind would name their child after a tyrant? Alas, the name Aurangazeb is very popular in Pakistan. Than again, this is the same country that named it's missiles after Ghaznvi, Gori etc. Edited May 2, 2021 by EnterTheVoid Laaloo and Khota 2

Do you think India should have General Dyer street in Amritsar? Aurangzeb was really really messed up.
Yoda-esque Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 You can write an entire treatise on torture methods when you read how aurangzeb tortured Sambhaji...In fact the Mughals had the most unique ways of torture: sewing animal skin on a person and making that person stand in heat so that the animal skin contracts and the person dies of aphyxiation or sewing eyelids closed, all these were common methods.

EnterTheVoid Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 You'd think we'd jump at the opportunity to rename Aurangazeb road in New Delhi without any hesitation. All the argy bargy that went over the road renaming, goes to show that we really are our own worst apologists.
