Is “India mein bahut batting tailunt hai” a myth?

Teams across the world would kill to have Tailunts like Pant, Shaw, Sunder and Gill with Paddikal, Kishan and Jaiswal waiting in the wings. Question is do we have the right TM that can allow these guys to settle in to the side.

Talent hain, par scouting for national selection has always been a bane. After selection, TM has no clues how to handle them. The rope is not of the same length to all. Favoritism rules.

The OP just wants Rohit to play tests till he dies by saying there is lack of talent. Are Gill, Pant, Sundar, Vihari not talented ? They won a series for India in Australia against all odds, in their first tour. If given enough chances, they can do whole lot more. But they need to given enough chances to settle but TM has hijacked some places for good like Rahane, Pujara, Rohit despite underperforming for ages. They need to shown the door.

A related point:  For the better part of the last decade and a half (until recently), India has dominated U-19 cricket.  India A teams do very well against other A teams - even in their backyards.  To me, these are indications that raw talent is not lacking.  Even fitness has improved a great deal from the old days. 

 

So, all the raw material is there, but someone has to craft it into finished products.  More importantly, someone has to find a way to make this collection, this team of talented individuals, greater than the sum of the individual parts.  It can be done.  The blueprint was clearly there for everyone to see just a few months ago.  Alas, it has slipped back now.

Case in point, Karun Nair replaced injured Rohit in the MO and scored a 300. When Rohit came back, he was dropped. He got some opportunities and scored 26.0.23.5 and was forgotten. Now, apparently only talented batsmen in India is Rohit Sharma.

Karun Nair though was no great shakes and would have eventually faded away, deserved a long rope. You don’t get dropped a couple of games after scoring a 300. Also he was dropped for Rahane not Rohit. Yes victim of injustice for sure

Nair replaced Rahane, not Rohit.

 

WADR to Karun Nair, he was still in contention, but injuries and lack of form in domestics stifled him just as much as the initial injustice.  Contrast that with Prithvi Shaw, even.  He got dropped, but was a complete beast in domestics, forcing his way back into the squad.  For Indian batsmen, this is imperative.

please read the OP. I have mentioned Rohit, Kohli not being held accountable as well.

We have good enough talent for T20s (although team selection is an issue). For the most part, we are okay in ODIs with the right team selection. but it is true that we do not have quality test batters. Chepu, Rat, and Rahane are inconsistent and in clear decline. Rohit has done quite well, but it remains to be seen whether he can sustain it. and the likes of KLR, Gill, Shaw all have big holes in their technique and/or temperament. Sundar is the only young batter I see with real test-level potential.
