Dada's stats are Rahansque now minus match winning SENA knocks. . He sure did play a match winning role in SL test win without Tendulkar.  But not enough to be better than other 3.

Batting performances of Indians at home with Ganguly in the side.  I know he was up against some top teams at home when he was going through a terrible patch. Australia/Pakistan/SA.  During his second stint he did tighten up his game and play more solidly. But he wasted best part of his career by not practicing regularly. He was notorious for skipping practice sessions.  Never worked hard like his other three. He was sort of gifted but not as gifted as Sehwag. You think with a bit more application he could have had better numbers?

Can anyone just anyone in indian team in present ans future score two successive 50s let alone centuries in English conditions even against a C grade English bowling line up batting at no 3??? Do u even consider this in your wildest dreams seeing the quality of batting india has in English conditions in last 15 years.. now think what Ganguly did along with his wickets bowling medium pace in his debut series that too because an established batsman ( sidhu) left and he got a chance..then he scored two bloody centuries in Lords and Nottingham..and topped it up by taking wickets.. i mean that itself makes him an indian great in my eyes..forget what he has done in rest of his career where he scored 7200 runs ..

You are missing the point. Look at the operative word "under-achieve". With a bit more effort he could have done a lot better than he ended up with given his lazy attitude towards practice.

Yes, most of them are capable of doing so.

Ganguly was more about the mentality and attitude than the talent itself. He is a perfect example of when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. If you guys are judging Ganguly based on today's averages and standard of cricket that will be a mistake.

Average in tests but great in ODIs for the 90s-early 2000s era. Although I don't think he was a liability in Tests as many are pointing out here. His comeback post 2006, he had some really crucial knocks I remember. Those hundreds against Australia and his 87 against SA on an incredibly tough Kanpur pitch stand out.

The test match which gave a lot of us fans a false hope of Yuvraj having cracked the Test puzzle..was not be

I watched Dada-Yuvraj and Dada-Irfan batting on day 1 and 2 at Chinnaswamy..some top class batting, the cover region was peppered by the three left-handers, still remember some of those shots. Dada missed out on an easy 100 in the second innings.
