Fantastic move by Modi, and about *ing time. He is on a roll now, long may this continue.

Next step must be to internationalize this day, get it recognized in UN or something. Along the lines of Holocaust Remembrance Day and Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. Most of the world is unaware of the horrors of our partition (even other horrors preceding it like Noakhali pogrom and Direct Action Day genocide in Calcutta ordered and carried out by Muslim League), about time we educate them.

And not just this we need to be more ambitious and also do something to highlight 1943 Bengal Famine orchestrated by the Brits under Churchill, evil must always be exposed. Churchill is a hero right now, venerated by the West, why can't we showcase our narrative and present real world history? 3 million people died in that famine, one of the largest in human history and done deliberately by the colonizers. Puzzling why we aren't more confrontational with UK about horrors inflicted upon Indians before '47? Instead we celebrate being part of the Commonwealth.

One of the best moves by Modi but I still maintain my suspicions about him :spy: regarding other things. While Modi has rightfully put the padosis in their naked position, he won't do it to the brits. this is because they are still in positions of power with their media and banks. I said in one forum that Hitler is better than Churchill in one of the forums and that got a lot of English in twisted chaddis. Then I quoted the Bengal famine and then they shut up. Its not part of history because we don't bring it up. It is even mentioned by their own historians and others like Australians and Canadians. All it needs is a push from our side and quoting their articles and publish it that Churchill was a bloodthirsty criminal not a war hero.

In fact Hitler gave Churchill several peace offers to stop the war and fight communism in Europe side by side. Churchill wanted war and got his. War hero is not someone who wages war for bloodlust. It is someone who doesnt want war but is victorious in the end like Arjuna in Mahabharata. In fact, Arjuna closely resembles hitler as he never wanted war in the first place. his goal was to establish a national socialist state where the people are free from usury from banks. But unlike Arjuna, Hitler didn't win. This is the age of kali where churchills are celebrated as war heroes and hitlers as villains. Churchill never fought an actual war from the front. Even his "heroism" in the Boer war was made up. Media can make heroes out of zeroes.  Watch this clip of Churchill calling Indians as primitive people

Probably the best series on the subject.

Remember setting a narrative of Lower caste Hindus, worst victims of communal clash, RSS partly responsible for killings etc, the film is anecdotal and sets a faux narrative if one starts seeing it as a grand setting of partition, hatred is not something comes from one side only.

. M-L and support of mainstream Muslims is solely responsible for partition, killings are always reciprocal, Tamas is as bad as Train to Pakistan in setting a false narrative to the partition

Good move.

The greatest contradiction in India, freedom of speech yet cannot hurt community sentiments. In theory, a good initiate yet has today, evolved to suppressing history & facts. India needs more challenges to the status quo.

Ultimately, India has been bogged with generation old problems. This government aims to resolve them instead of passing it to future generations.

As a descendant of someone who had to leave Rawalpindi, partition was very tough on Sikhs and Hindus who lived in Punjab and the Peshawar area/Afghanistan. Have heard untold story of fathers pushing their daugters in wells to avoid rape/murder/. blatant killings and trains coming from west with dead bodies. Women in our family learned how to use double barrel guns and keep watch. They brought nothing with them and lost all their belongings.

Thanks to Indian government all the refugees were settled and were able to work their way out of poverty. The situation was dire with ten families living in one house.

So it is important for everyone to be thankul to  India that embraced all the poor refugees and gave them an opportunity.

Pretty much every sikh and punjabi hindu in Delhi is a former refugee.

Awesome move. My Grandfather and his brothers left everything in Lahore and had to run away catching an overnight train amidst the chaos.

Reached Indian side on 14 Aug itself as luckily our ancestral village is 200KM from Border. Awful memories for my family and a lot of people in Sub Continent.

Hopefully we internationalise this day. But, even if 1.3 Billions make it a trend on twitter and make noise, more then enough.

Fcuk Goras.

Know a few families who left everything behind in East Pakistan to find safe passage to India, the beneficiaries were their own employees who took everything away to not rat them out.

Unlike western front, exodus to Bengal was a long drawn one, then there was 1971 genocide. Not enough attention is given to Bengali victims of this horror saga. In fact even Bengali community is to be blamed for having such short memory.

Bakhtiyar Khilji->Bengal Sultanate...unchallenged rule by invaders (Turks, Afghans) since 1200 AD

Direct Action Day

Noakhali genocide

1947-48 partition violence

1971 genocide, largest ever targeted killings since WW-II

Yet 35 years of Left Front and now TMC reign. Impossible to explain this.

I am so glad that these families could come back home. And bro, this country was their home as much as it was of anybody. They only came back to their home.

TheWire and AsianAgw along with that snake K Thapar is trying to run a fake story of Jammu Muslim massacre in 1947. Jammu was always a Hindu majority and could have had partition riots, not the extent of cleansing 237000 Muslims in Jammu. PoK has literally wiped out any non-Muslim population and these are blind to it.

There was a Poonch rebellion against Maharaja I think when Maharaja had to send its forces.  Lots of turbulence happened in frontier areas of the state back then.  So probably the story has been twisted.

Jammu was always a Hindu majority place 65/35 probably in Hindus favor ..  Although surrounded by hugely Muslim dominated areas & still is like Rajouri Poonch Kishtwar Bhaderwah.
