Lord Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Kohli will retire after WTC Finals with average under 48

At current rate it'll take another 15 matches for him to get there.. BGT, England tour and maybe a home season with SL and WI should do it This ofcourse depends on what happens in BGT. He will not survive two back to back humiliating series losses
Adamant Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 Yes Kohli has fallen behind Root in tests but tbh I do not think that Joe Root is that good, he might retire as a low tier ATG if he manages to average above 50 and maintain good SENA record, but I am not really a big fan of him. Only Steve Smith is a sure shot ATG for me and well ahead of the pack.

One good thing about him is he fully utilizes the flat tracks so that overall average will look good even if he fails on tough pitches

Bigg Brother Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 How the mighty has fallen. I thought he would be averaging over 50. 48 now. Can end up at 45 if he stretches his career. Wanted to go him Sachin way having 2nd peak but he has gone Alastair Cook way.

Cook was an opener playing predominantly in English cloudy conditions yet was very good vs spin in India and in Aus. I'd say Cook edges it as a Test batsman Ultimate_Game and cricspirit 2

I'd say Cook edges it as a Test batsman Yeah agree about Cook being better bat than Kohli but I was talking about the career graph. Cook at 27-28 was tipped to overtake SRT with Gavskar predicting 15k runs and 50 centuries but after Ashes 2013-14 his career went downhill, he scored few soft runs here and there (mostly in England) but that resilient Cook who was hard to get out was gone. He stretched his career by 2 yrs and shockingly he was only 34 when retired.. Kohli has similar or worse last 4 yrs as Cook had after 2014.. Edited October 31, 2024 by Bigg Brother
New guy Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Should now compare him with Babar to ask who will average higher. Babar still has age ln his side to make a comeback Ultimate_Game 1
Stan AF Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 All said and done this was a sad and unbelievable fall for Kohli. It was truly a pain to see him struggle this much for runs at the end of his career

Just goes to prove how difficult it is to be consistently good for 24 years! Kohli has just 16 years in international cricket and he looks done. SachDan and sage 2

vvvslaxman Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 OUtside flat pitches Kohli bats like nervous debutant in every match

I'd say Cook edges it as a Test batsman Cook was able to win a series in Aus on his own. IIRC he scored nearly 700 runs and couldn't be dismissed. He played like Pujara but also managed to score runs and not just play out deliveries. Kohli hasn't had any series where he made such a difference. He's best known as a bilateral whiteball king.
Number Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Kohli's average now 47.72. Will he retire with less than 45 is what remains to be seen. cricspirit 1
deepdynamo Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Kohli is a leech so he will stick around till 10k runs. That's his limit. 10k run at around 46.5 average. Just a middling career then after a prolonged slump for 5-6 years.
