Or we drop booms for finals.

We were without Kohli, they were missing Shakib, Tamim and a couple of their frontline bowlers, really a second string Bangla team. They sent some tailender to open with Liton and the opening duo put on a 100+ partnership. Bumrah choked badly there, Liton toyed with him and his figures improved due to some cheap late overs after Kuldeep and Jadhav induced a mid-innings collapse. IIRC even Liton was wrongly given out (stumping), otherwise they were set to get a 250+ match-winning score with a Liton 150, he was batting brilliantly that day. We were never in control of our innings and huffed and puffed our way to a final ball win thanks to Bhuvi's clutchness. As usual Dhoni played a match losing knock that day, deserved to be punished but Bangla had a mental block against us in these big games at that point of time, even 2016 WT20 where they had no business losing in the final 3 balls. A team like Afghanistan would have wrapped up that match with a 100 runs win, we were that bad. Fortunately for Bumrah we managed a win there, and his choking got overlooked. But warning signs for 2019 WC were visible that day in Dubai, just that the fluke win masked many of our frailties which ultimately cost us the WC SF against a far superior team. Bumrah is good but overrated in odi. He doesn't suit odi. He is an elite top tier test and t20 bowler. Odi is his worst format despite but what stats suggests

If he struggles in T20 WC, then keeping him away from LOIs for 6-9 months may not be a bad idea. Even otherwise, he should not play the NZ LOIs after the WC and play selected LOIs in SA

Oh yes Mehedi Hasan opened that day with Liton. It completely took India by surprise. Was a funky move by Mashrafe (another brilliant captain). Liton literally put Bumrah to sword in Powerplay. Another lesson in there was we should be prepared to be unconventional in big games. Method never wins you trophies. India whenever we have won ICC events it has come down to individual brilliance or unorthodox moves. Kohli follows Kiwi Aussie Poms(old version) strategy in ICC events & is very rigid with team selections & tactical planning. You tell me Rahul didn't looked settled at all in WC 19 & we all knew he will fail opening the batting in KO's. That's why we should have made a funky move & made Pant open to taken Kiwi Trundlers on in Powerplay. In a short run chase could have given us the momentum & a left right combo. But again we fell for method instead of being inventive & creative with our planning... Edited September 16, 2021 by Lone Wolf Gollum 1

Checked CB commentary now, it seems my memory hasn't deserted me. LINK His first spell, 4 overs for 29 runs, no wicket Bhuvi 16 runs in his 4 Liton and that tailender put 120 runs opening stand in 20 overs before spinners choked them in the middle overs. Lots of brain farts by them, and Liton's unlucky dismissal.

Still, ended up at below 5 and winning,if he had been a choker he still would have got clobbered throughout End results matter Had we lost despite him coming back good,i would have my reservation over him being called "man of steel" We still won, heavy weather of a moderate chase was made by Dhoni He has disappointed us in 2 occasions 2019 WC semis(partially I believe) 2021 WTC Final(handsdown choke)had we won it ,no one would have called it choke

Rohit too made mistakes but his calm demeanor meant we could somehow keep our cool in pressure moments. How can BCCI not see this? raki05 and sorak 2

And maybe Kiwis have him figured out. For me Asia Cup F was a choke since Bangladesh almost sealed the deal in the first 20 overs. Bumrah improved his figures at the end but that doesn't tell the full story of what happened between his first spell and later spell. Others saved the team, plus luck.,..on his own Bumrah wilted when the heat was on. Bowling figures are deceptive and his late comeback made no difference, anyone could have done that....like post-2015 Dhoni almost spoiling a run chase, being bailed out by his partners (and Thisara Perera) and him striking a 4 to finish the match.

With current MO we will do better, but you never know with Kohli and his stubborn antics to prove himself right and offcourse his PR always overshadows everything That being said, that MO was a ticking time bomb which exploded taking the whole side down in the semis WC 2019 Gollum 1

How can BCCI not see this? True, Rohit makes a lot of blunders in IPL too. Dhoni at his times have made blunders but all captains get better tactically with time and kohli has gotten better tactically with time to. At the end its how calm u can keep things so ur team performs at ultimate level . A nervous player will always commit error and these days margin of error is very small. Gollum 1

Kapil Dev was Punjabi & he managed to do the unthinkable in 1983... Honestly nothing to do Kohli being wannabe Punjabi. He may not be bright but he has decent mental toughness. I don't like his style of Captaincy coz it is plain simple boring & you know what you can expect from the team under him. Indian Captains have been unorthodox when they didn't had resources & managed to win the tourneys. Recently Rohit with an awful side won Nidahas & Asia Cup which something Kolly will screw up with a full strength side. Not being flexible is his biggest drawback & Indian cricket has suffered due to it. Jay 1
