India's final wins in multinational tournaments (2+ teams) across formats in the last 10 years

Neither Dhoni nor Kohli cover themselves in glory when it comes to T20 WC.  Dhoni's tactics and leadership are directly to blame for India bowing out early in multiple T20 WCs.  3 by my count.

Kohli, the less said the better.

It is inline with IPL tournament wins. I have not added the semi final f**k up here or leaving the team to fend for themselves middle of the tour after 36 all out fiasco.

Regulars on the forum would know that that I'm no fan of "Kuptaan Wrogn" captaincy skills.  Or lack of.

Yes. India has grossly underachieved in multinational tournaments in the last 10 years. Dhoni and Kohli didn't cover themselves with glory. Atleast Dhoni did win something at the start of his career as captain. Kohli should just stick to be a Test captain where blunders can be course-corrected unlike in LOIs.

Some Tourneys you missed mate

2015 Carlton Mid ODI Tri series  Loss  under Dhoni.

2015 ODI World Cup Semi loss under Dhoni.

I only focused on the finals. Yes Dhoni and Kohli ran us to ground in terms of multinational tournaments.

Kohli has got stage fright by his contant failures and he playing like that and his teams instead of playing to win are playing not lose.

Yeah team loses focus somehow..  As soon as big moments come.  Everyone becomes fidgety.

Sports Psychologist might have come handy but I am not sure BCCI has provided one atm.

You can see that in the IPL. In Tests his inadequacies are masked since you have time to fix the problems and get back on track. In shorter formats you have to be on the feet constantly.

In the last 4 finals/semis, Bumrah losing his rhythm completely hasn't helped at all.

2016 T20 WC semis: 1/42 defending 190+

2017 CT final: 0/68

2019 WC Semis: 1/39

2021 WTC Final: 0/57 and 0/35

Unless Bumrah steps up, difficult to see us winning a trophy now.

Out of those 4 ,2 were when he was pretty new

2016 was actually saw a bigger choke from Ashwin, being a spinner he bowled a crucial no ball producing a wicket,

17 CT Ashwin,Jadeja,Bumrah all failed but one can give him benefit of doubt for being just 18 months old in international cricket

2019 semi ,was quite ordinary for his standard

21 WTC final ,choke of highest order

Even the Nidahas final, Asia Cup 2018 final  were flukes. Any other team apart from Toygers would have closed out those matches where they outplayed Team India for most parts.

Asia Cup 2018 final was one of the worst matches we played, shocking quality, after the way we dominated the group games!!!!

We were without Kohli, they were missing Shakib, Tamim and a couple of their frontline bowlers, really a second string Bangla team.

They sent some tailender to open with Liton and the opening duo put on a 100+ partnership. Bumrah choked badly there, Liton toyed with him and his figures improved due to some cheap late overs after Kuldeep and Jadhav induced a mid-innings collapse. IIRC even Liton was wrongly given out (stumping), otherwise they were set to get a 250+ match-winning score with a Liton 150, he was batting brilliantly that day.

We were never in control of our innings and huffed and puffed our way to a final ball win thanks to Bhuvi's clutchness. As usual Dhoni played a match losing knock that day, deserved to be punished but Bangla had a mental block against us in these big games at that point of time, even 2016 WT20 where they had no business losing in the final 3 balls. A team like Afghanistan would have wrapped up that match with a 100 runs win, we were that bad.

Fortunately for Bumrah we managed a win there, and his choking got overlooked. But warning signs for 2019 WC were visible that day in Dubai, just that the fluke win masked many of our frailties which ultimately cost us the WC SF against a far superior team.

In 2014 wc msd carried yuvraj to the final despite everybody saying he was a liability.

In the final he proved to be just that. India fell 20 runs and short as yuvi hogged the strike. Lankans did not want him out.

Truth is msd has made some tactical shockers.

Even bigger was sending Jaddu to bat against England ahead of peak Yuvi and Yusuf - both those guys were near their prime as T20 monsters.   And Dhoni sent in Jaddu to eat balls.  I still remember Yusuf praying on the crease and trying to save that game, but it was simply too much left till too late.  That dude was a limited player who made 2 bucks out of his 25 cent cricket ability.  For all his flaws, I will always hold Yusuf Pathan in regard.  His clutch ODI century in South Africa is another example.

And in 2010, Jaddu the panauti dropped Shane Watson off of Harbhajan, and then Dhoni the "smart captain" who knows how to handle spinners - repeatedly bowled his spinners into the wind against a set Watson, who was able to smack the ball with the wind over and over.  I was there, at the ground, and it just didnt make sense to bowl the spinners from that end.  But Dhoni fudged that up too.

Don't get me wrong, Dhoni was a quality captain in white ball cricket and did a lot of things right - but like you said, he had many a tactical shockers.

Don't understand what made people think  Bumrah choked in Asia cup final, when his figures don't give any evidence of such

8.3 overs staying below an economy of 5 with a wicket

They are very easily shifting the blame from others onto him

Dhoni was ultra pathetic in that final

+ Or if Kohli would have captained even toygers had fancy their chances to seal the deal.
