India A tour to South Africa - squad selection

The tour is of 3 unofficial tests starting from 26th November. Not sure if there are going to be any limited overs. This will be the first A tour after the last one vs NZ in early 2020.

Who could be the players who can be picked for the FC matches? I hope the selectors and TM are wise enough not to keep the younger players on the bench for the NZ matches

Openers: Easwaran, Shaw, Paddikal,

Middle order batsmen: Shryeas Iyer(c), SKY, Sarfaraz Khan,

All rounders: Venkatesh Iyer, Vijay Shankar

Wicket Keepers: Ishan Kishan and Akshay Padkar (Vidarbha)

Spinners: Rahul Chahar, Saurabh Kumar (UP SLA)/ Shahbaz Ahmed (Bengal SLA)

Pacers: Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Kartik Tyagi, Ishan Porel. For the other two spots, should Shivam Mavi, and Umran Malik be picked or will Sandeep Warrier be preferred along with D. Chahar/Bhuvi)? Perhaps we can take both Mavi and Malik with the traveling squad even if they are not picked.

Assumption is the Indian test squad for NZ (including reserves) will be Rohit, Rahul, Gill, Mayank, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Vihari, Pant, Bharat (reserve keeper ahead of Saha), Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar, Bumrah, Shami, Umesh, Siraj, Ishant

NZ tour starting from T20I means we will have full fledged young squad available for India A tour.

Great squad @ShoonyaSifar  I'd like to add Hanuma Vihari as well as he won't play any cricket in NZ tests.  Probably will be better off in South Africa.  Gaikwad as well probably at no 3.

Prasidh Avesh need to be rotated with Malik/Tyagi.  Both games are in Bloemfontein..  Highveld venue with good batting surface.

Pacers ....

Avesh

Tyagi

Saini

Umran Malik ... these 4 for all formats

Nagaswala ... just for 4 day games

D.Chahar ... just for white ball games

**  Prasidh should be playing tests for India and should replace Ishant in the test squad, who has lost fitness like Bhuvi.

** Umran Malik should be picked for all A-team games ( pecking order be damned ).  If a 150 kph pacer comes good for India, the benefits can be huge.

When are they going to select the squad?

This tour runs parallel to the NZ tests. I just hope all our young pacers are not held back in India as reserves warming benches. Bumrah, Shami, Umesh, Siraj, Ishant - Pick these 5 for the tests and let the younger seamers play some FC games

I hope Warrier and Porel don't get picked for the Unofficisl tests.

There is no benefit of choosiing pacers who bowl 130 k+ or 135 k+ unless

a)  They are geniuses at swing bowling

or

b)  They are 6'5" plus guys who get steep bounce.

Plus Warrier is already 30. There is no point handing debut to a pacer at age 32 or 33.

Tyagi has to get look i would also like to see krishna, avesh in the squad ,regarding umran he is raw atm need atleast 18months or 24 months of consistent performance yes people are bound to be excited but ultimately it is too soon to be in consideration of List A games

and Porel needs serious work on his action like Pathan worked on run-up of Umran.

Important that the selectors pick a slim squad with only those likely to get game time included. There would Ranji season on and players need to feature there after missing out on the full season last year.

We will be playing three back to back 4 day matches with 2 day breaks between them. We will need a pool of 6-7 seamers.

Plus Ranji matches will start only in January. November and December are for the shorter formats.
