zen Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 (edited) As far as domestic T20 leagues go, IPL (I follow it passionately) and CPL (I don't follow it but it is one of the popular leagues) are widely followed. Both teams are very strong on paper, more so WI with its who-is-who of T20s. Currently, both are hoping for a miracle to get in the SFs (It is like one leg is on a banana skin and the other in a grave). Have these teams failed under the pressure of expectations? Do they have too many "old" players? When not playing pressure games, these teams look good. For India the problem is probably the old-fashioned mindset and adhering strictly to theories and formulas. Not a street smart team though it may have a few street smart cricketers. Too many experienced players with a history of failing in pressure games. For WI, the bowling attack was less than optimal. It has many "smart" bowlers in Russell, Bravo, Pollard, and Holder, who can use the conditions well. In some of the games, iirc, many of these bowlers were unavailable (Russell) or not initially in the squad (Holder). Pathetic world cup campaign for both the teams and now they are hoping for a miracle to get to the next stage. Edited November 4, 2021 by zen coffee_rules 1
coffee_rules Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 The solution is for ICC to have QFs. Which surely India would have made it to in this WC. After that, it is anybody's guess and even ICC/BCCI/Fans/Indian team don't care.

With only 12 teams, there is not much point for QF as the eventual goal of having the 4 best inform teams in the SF works in the current format too. If there is QF, the group stage with only 6 teams, which includes minnows, become more or less pointless. At the end of the day, teams have to play good cricket. If format is to be changed, one option is to have only the group toppers go to the SF, while #2 of G1 plays #3 of G2 and vice versa to meet the two group toppers in the SF. In this way, the group stage eliminates 50% of the teams (v only 33% if QFs are held for just 12 teams) Edited November 4, 2021 by zen I6MTW and Norman 2
Pollack Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Pitches doesn't suit WI style of play. We definitely could've done better batting. Don't know what went wrong... both the teams have joke of a bowling attack.
maniac Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 WI was not a strong team. It had a pathetic bowling attack and a bunch of over hill players. Indian bowling attack while on paper is pretty good has been pathetic. Huge difference. Yes there might be a few players past their prime playing in the side much like WI but the quality is relatively better. No comparison. The good sides have done as expected- Pak,Eng,Aus,SA and Nzl. The weaker sides have been eliminated: Nam,Sco, Bang The Average sides have been hit or miss Afg,SL,Wi India is the only surprise here and that is infact why that is the news that has overshadowed this world cup I6MTW, Vijy and speedheat 3

But a Super-6 out of 12 teams is a good option to avoid the group of death syndrome. In Super-6 we can play the other 3 teams of other groups and play top 2 as final

In Super-6 we can play the other 3 teams of other groups and play top 2 as final Rather than try to bend everything to help a team (the world is exciting with teams like Eng, Aus, Pak, etc. playing well) , why not just play good cricket by picking positive and crunch cricketers? There is no band-aid for bad cricket. In super 6, India could be #6. Then what do something else ...
vayuu1 Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 How is india strong tbh,if the credential is ipl how many top scorer in ipl being picked in lineup plus how many top wicket taker being picked, rohit is at fag end of his career, bhuvi is done ,shami doesnt warrent a place pandya is not fit, kohli has lost his mojo, plus ash and jaddu both have been non performers, issue is like it or not we have been following same template in t20's since 2012 ,ideally guys like shaw, iyer, jaiswal, avesh, siraj, sundar, ruturaj, bharat, arshdeep, mavi, harshal should have been in the team, but they are no where to be seen, guys like abhishek, bishnoi, samad, rahul chahar, umran, tyagi should have been groomed, but they are no where to be seen,so whose fault is this, mix these guys with rahul, pant ,sky and kishan, and if pandya regains his fitness you have got a strong bunch most importantly a hungry bunch, its tm and selectors fault that they have been hesitant in giving newbies chances
