What I wanted to say was that ... we should encourage our fast bowlers to bowl at their full pace say 70% of the time. ( Some slower spells are inevitable in less important spells in long test series and low key LOIs though )

Checked the scorecard of that game. He was 2nd change. Should be operating with new ball.

 

We desperately need an aggressive new ball option without worrying about economy. Umran can be that guy with some fine tuning.

Problem I think is the fact that india rewards players who perform well In ranji. 

 

Due to nature of pitches in India, medium pacers excel there and give the selectors a false impression about their ability. The real quality fast bowlers can't perform as well in Indian conditions hence they get overlooked.

Certainly... Supposedly the Indian pitches in 1969 broke the heart of Graham McKenzie. Someone said in SA later "Something had happened to Garth there....".  Australia did not tour India again for 10 years - 1979.

 

Its a complex issue which is not going to be solved easily. No matter how many fast bowlers are there in contention - this country will not become a pace bowling team despite a Jaspreet Bumrah. Just like Spain with its clay courts does not produce  hard/grass court players despite a Rafael Nadal.

Siraj is set to be picked finally according to reports..   Avesh will also get into squad most likely.  Umran should be preserved for A tour of South Africa...  He should be groomed at that level as of now as he is quite raw.  Don't want what happened to Siraj in a random T20I years ago.  Indian selectors can be extremely fickle. 

Tyagi has to included for NZ T20Is  I think.

Nope playing useless Ranji trophy games would be futile for him.  Playing A tours on a place like South Africa will help him immensely.  Basically a crash course type.  He can come into ODI side later in the tour always.

Yes but what is the time frame of this grooming? 1 year, 2 years? Why not groom Sakaria types ( to become faster ) and give chance to the express bowlers earlier? Like Bumrah got the chance when he was raw too.

I like you what you said but Bumrah wasn't raw when he first played for India

He played his first domestic t20 in SMAT 2012/13 and first class in 2013

He wasn't straight away drafted to Indian squad,if im correct he was replacing Shami who was injured back then for a LOI tour to Aus

But yes certain players should be fast tracked ,and Umran is one of them and so is Tyagi not much grinding and toiling in domestics,

Few A tours to SENA is fine

I kindof thought that he had a debut 2016 5 or 6 years ago at age 21/22. That is the age to bring a fast bowler at least in the short game of ODI and T20. Tests  maybe at 23/24.

 

Once you wait till 26/27 it is already getting late.

i also think that he is ready. But I am not sure if dravid, chetan sharma and ganguly pick him straight away. 

 

I am sure he is going to be picked very soon , either into this NZ tour or may be after 6 months.
