Saving have to be there.

 

If the total revenue were to be reduced by 60% then the BCCI's total expenditure would come down significantly too.

 

Moreover, a financial powerhouse like the BCCI's presence in international tournaments and series means that the the negotiation of contracts with the broadcasters are far more lucrative too. Most Indian broadcasters will like to keep the BCCI in good humour so that they get future contracts and future IPL contracts.

What was the amount BCCI transfers to state boards? What the cost of organizing domestic tournaments?

The quality of cricket infrastructure has improved tremendously across the country after the IPL has become a financial success.

 

Earlier, the pay that domestic cricketers used to receive was abysmal. Now, it is much much better.

 

Moreover, we see cricketers come from most parts of India now, barring the extreme North East. Which is partly due to the fact that they have better cricket infrastructure than 20 years back. 

 

Till the 1990s, most cricketers came from only a few bigger states and cities.

 

The IPL is also encouraging more people to take up cricket as a career option in India.

 

The only question that can be raised is whether the funds generated from the IPL are utilized to the fullest for the betterment of Indian cricket.

 

I believe much more can be done.

There is a reason why top politicians want to be in board...With BCCI, there is no accountability as such..There are one time expenditures like building stadium etc, but you dont see new stadiums being built every year. THere may be lot of leaking to political system and other stakeholders which is not well known..

politicians trying to join bcci and state cricket boards has been a thing long before ipl, some royal family members too.

Feeding the politician is a necessary business expense. Not unique to the BCCI. But there are some plus points though. There was a time when BCCI actually paid the Government to have doordarshan broadcast cricket matches. From that to the BCCI getting a boat load of money from broadcasters for the right to show games- the BCCI has come a long way. The Ipl was a neat way to bring more fans to the game, unearth more talent, making sure that players are better compensated, even ex players getting pensions, ensuring better facilities for players, and a whole bunch of other things. Ipl has been a huge plus for Indian cricket.
