urbestfriend Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Since ages , Indian umpires have been worse. Likes of Anil choudhury, Amish saheba, Veendra sharma , Ravi everyone has been equally bad. Virendra sharma is one whose LBW decision is so random.. Is there any way no of bad decisions can downgrade these umpires...Nitin Menon seems somewhat better than others. What is the criteria to get into umpiring? Good umpiring is somewhat natural and doesn't come from training, so any way these folks are selected out of many candidates? Or is it just the influence within BCCI which pushes them.. rkt.india Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 BCCI runs umpiring courses and then have to do umpiring in domestic cricket.

Some more information please. I mean, what is the criteria to umpire in domestics? Does BCCI gives a score to those who take the course or everyone who takes the course gets to umpire?
TheWall Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Every country have a share of bad umpires...

That was a really close one If it had touched the pad first, we would've seen slight deviation which we didn't see...It is bat first, it hadn't touched the pad before deviated from the bat..I dont know how people wish Kohli to fail because they hate him, but this was a bad decision both from AC and BC..

Deviation happens in big nicks, not small ones, there are many edges where ball doesn't deviate at all. The ball deviated off the bat as it was a big nick, while it just brushed lightly off the pad (you can still see the seam changed direction after pad)

R!TTER Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Self flagellation at its finest, Indian umpires are the best at it
asterix Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 This umpire Virender Sharma us a serial offender. He’ll pretty sure screw Up India in this match… express bowling 1
urbestfriend Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 It had deviated 45 degree to hit the front pad..How is it possible to hit pad first express bowling 1
express bowling Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 (edited) The 3rd umpire, Virendra Sharma, ruled it out before going to ball tracking. And he sounded really low on confidence when he was checking the snickometer. One can argue whether it was bat first or not. But can't give it out without checking ball tracking. I am not passing any verdict on Indian umpires in general based on just this one incident. But Virendra Sharma, as an individual, has been a poor umpire in general. It is a clear case of bat first in my opinion.

FWIW, I think he followed the protocol in not overruling the on field decision wrt Kohli's decision. ENG has a few much celebrated umpires (three of Illingworth, Kettleborogh and Gough) right now and the whole ENG media contingent seldom fails to blow their trumpet calling them the best at every available opportunity. But you should look up how laughably incompetent they were collectively against West Indies at Ageas Bowl only last year. It was Shakoor Rana stuff. Not saying Virender doesn't get decision wrong ever so often. But holding a few wrong decision as evidence isn't fair when every umpire has them on their resume. If you see him officiating in a test match and if review system is not there, you will see how bad Virender sharma is..Because of DRS, these substandard umpires get saved as people dont outrage against them as used to happen in previous Steve Bucknor era..
