SOURAV GANGULY:

The current BCCI chief and former India captain Dadi, just carried on as a baggage for 2 whole years - over 20 tests - averaging a shade below 25.

He got a very long rope as a non-performer, because of that magical series win against Aus in 2001 at home where he was captain.

To his credit, he did get back into form and redeemed himself to some extent as a Test Player.

Rahane too can claim to have won us our greatest ever test series in history against steepest odds.

No amount of money, resources, talent will ever allow us to be the great cricketing power that we can and deserve to be, until  and unless

True. Gangly is one of the most overrated batsman I have ever seen.

Rahane's poor run of form is longer than Ganguly. In the latter's case, his form completely tanked. However, in the case of Rahane, it is becoming more clear that he only scores the bare minimum by playing a few so-called "critical" innings to save himself - in this respect, he reminds me more of late-career Azhar (with but a fraction of that fixer's talent).

Ganguly had  no support except from Sanjay Jha those days. He would write article after article to defend him. Fans started a web forum ihateganguly.com and it became an instant hit. Later they changed it to cricketwatchdog.com. Eventually got dropped. He fixed his technique and did a decent job. Rahane never was kicked out like that.

Yeah, I remember this well. He used to write on cricketnext.com, a portal he founded.
