Which team currently has strongest batting line up in world?

India - Weak middle order, overall good unit with competent all rounders

Australia - ATG batsman, beast opener at home, future great in Labu

New Zealand - Most experienced and settled line up

SA - decent players, none great, could be strong in future.

Eng - One great batsman, rest all mediocre ones

Pakistan - their best batsman averages 40 in test cricket

WI - similar to England sans Root

SL - similar to England sans Root

Bangladesh - don't know where they are going

New Zealand are great at home only. Even India have best batters for home conditions also.

Ultimately, it is between these two or Australia here also. But clearly the batting quality is not that good away from home except the Fab Four and a couple of other batters.

There are not many 40-45 averaging batsman in the game who can relied to perform overseas. This is where the batting quality of this era falls compared to the previous eras.

In tests? It's NZ comfortably. Then maybe Australia and India. And the fact that we are still the 3rd best even with an absolute joke of a middle order says how much test batting has declined across all teams.

That time in the World Cricket when no Team is perfect. Each and every team have glaring faults and almost all teams are either in transition or lack disciplined batters who can survive test cricket. All countries are producing more T20 hacks over serious cricketers.

Not much difference between NZ, India and Australia. They are the top 3. The rest are far behind

Definitely India doesn't belong there. We are one of the worst.

Since when? They were demolished at Mumbai & will be easily demolished in Oz, if they tour again. Heck full strength SA might pulverize them with their bowling.

Just to put things in prospective, India is leading against England in test series and won against Aussies as visitors.

Is there a debate ?

Only for those who like contrarian views.

With Conway and Williamson, they're quite formidable in all conditions. And it's not even the case of them being great, but the rest are just bad to average at best. India has a joke of a middle order, Australia are Smith/Labu Or bust outside of home, England are well... the less said the better. SAF are Pak both have moderately good batting lineups but need to see the more of them against the best attacks.

Last 1 year performance of difference teams ( by average)  We have to be super patriotic to claim we had the best batting line up. unquestionably we had the superior bowling line up.  Look which two groups have done well for us.7 to 11 & openers. I included 6/7 they are all at the bottom. Nobody is consistent from our side. That is why we never topped any of the combination. Best spot is our no.8 batsman. 2nd position.  We got our clock cleaned in two innings. At various stages some miraculous innings by our lower order batsmen saved the day for us which won't make us the best batting line up.  Australia has the better batting line up overall. They also have depth in batting.

Does this take into consideration home and away stats seperately?

It is like I am Team A, I keep playing at home and my batting average is 50.

Then there is Team N, they play lot of games at home too and their batting average is 45.

Then there is Team I, they play more away and their batting average is 40. Does that make them bad?

We need to list down these stats seperately at home and away and then analyse, not saying that it will mean India the best batting in the world but I am sure they won't be much more worse than Aus or NZ away from home.

KW actually worse than Kohli away in the last 2 years or so, so no him being in the team makes no difference at all. Conway is unproven, he's played in familiar conditions against a second string Eng bowling & he could well be found out in SA/Oz or Asia against those pace demons!

It does but I'm looking at the upside, with 1-2 replacements & those youngsters clicking is there any team that looks better? Purely on numbers, if you look at past 2 years, then of course it's NZ but needless to say they played mostly at home & against a lot of minnows! I really don't rate this NZ side & the two test series against us just proved that they were *ing lucky to win the WTC finale :whack2:

We got rolled over in India too in the pink test.  Just that our bowling was good enough to nail England down. We got rolled over in ENgland, We got rolled over in NZ/Australia. Our tailenders saved the day for us.  Our middle order sucked everywhere.  Our bowllers and batting of bowlers managed to mask our impotent middle order.

You don't remain at the top of the rankings for more than 5 years without having a decent batting lineup.

Our batsmen have their faults but only NZ and Aus can claim to have a better batting lineup. Even then, NZ's batters were demolished in India and Australia. And Australia was struggling badly without Smith/Warner.

Our bench strength is the best. It's only the out of form senior trio in the middle order that is dragging us down big time.

No random tailender scoring was that saved us. None of them are world class batsmen. Somehow they managed to click. Thakur 3 fifties, Sundar 3 fifties, Even Shami & Bumrah added valuable runs in one of the test to help us win. THen there is Pant who played valuable knock. Jadeja/Ashwin batted well in different phases. No we are not good. Our bowling is superb.  In the last 2 years our batting average is only better than SA/Zimboks/Windies.  If this is 2018 we were one of the best side. Still third in terms of average. Even if you include only home records we are still way behind many sides.

You are making it sound like we have a minnow level batting. Yes our middle order sucks, no doubt about that. The worst among the major teams.

But the 'batting lineup' also includes the openers, wk, allrounders, tailenders. We have a good bunch of openers, the best set of test allrounders and a match winning wk batsman. The tail has shown improvement in recent times.

In terms of overall batting strength (no 1-11), only NZ and Aus are ahead of us and not by a huge margin.

Context would be super important. We had tough away tours of Australia, England. Played the No 1 team in the world at home in the last 1 year.
