He did exceptionally well in testing conditions in England and now...he started well in SA , as well...

 

He missed a century or 2 in home conditions in india against NZ

Not much nervousness today. Same with Agarwal. one reason may be neither of SA bowlers hardly bowled at the stumps. Completely erratic. Other guy bowled well. But too raw. Still there are many ways you could mess things up. He was assured and also disciplined. Good shot selection. He needs to continue scoring boat load of runs for atleast 1 or 2 years to make up for the average career so far.

I think last series in SA was where it all started going downhill for him, hopefully this one help him turnaround.  Needs to get 400+ runs his series min after this start

400+ in 3-test series in SA is extremely hard. 300+ would count as success

He already has 120 and assuming gets to bat 5 more innings he will need to avg ~55 . 

300 is a good series, but he's had one in England . 400 would be a breakthrough series, something he's been due for a while .

300 in 3 tests is very good, 300 in 4 tests is only decent (which is what he had in eng) - that's the difference. I don't see him making 400+ this series, but I'd be happy to be wrong.

He was never a bad test batsman. He just had a horrid 2018 with back SENA tours in extremely challenging conditions for openers. Never saw him stat pad in tests. All his runs are tough.
