Tryst with destiny - Rohit Talented Sharma

Like a coming of age story, Rohit Sharma finds himself in a position where he could build a legendary status. Its an opportunity of a lifetime. 

 

From an unfulfilled talented, he graduated to be perhaps the best ODI player for India after Sachin. He has finally found some rhythm in his test batting and is a constant in the team. 

 

Planets are aligning to put the prodigal son through some serious challenges with unbelievable opportunities.

 

What's working for him ?

 

1) A new management with whom he can build a new framework for Indian cricket team 

2) A very big talent pool to work with.

3) Always better for a player to receive captaincy when team is desperate and all options have run out. He will receive full confidence and power. 

4) Lastly, it quite apparent to anyone who understands the game, that he is natural captain. He has some good qualities. But now he has to deal with the pressures.

 

His challenges ?

 

1) Kohli. We have to see how he pick up as a player and if he becomes a nuisance factor for the team.

2) He has take a call on the seniors. This could be his biggest challenge. As bad as they have been, no batter looks ready for replacement

3) Time. He has three years left on this watch. Can he deliver in this time ? Not sure. But he will need a strong deputy.

4) His fitness. Perhaps, he will have to give up T 20 after next WC

His slow starts have been hurting the ODI team for a while now...especially when he gets out after slow starts. The formula for ODIs has changed. Rohit is not the legend he is sometimes made out to be.

it is not clear, I believe. the man is injured more often than not, so mental midget KLR will be "subbing" more often than not

I won’t be surprised if Rohit plays various easy bilaterals (denying India to develop openers) and gets injured at the time of WCs 

 

Even playing him in WC could turn out to be pointless if he is just going to do well versus minnows and when horses have left the stables

he may either get injured or "injured", especially with Brat in the team.

Talented Sharma will be 35 in less than 100 days. With his fitness it will be a miracle if he survives 1 year playing all 3 formats.

I think you mean 1 month - excluding the IPL for which he is always fit

He has achieved everything a cricketer can dream of , won't be much motivation.
