Only young batsman I can think who can match him in getting frequently injured is Will Pucvoski. He is undisputed King of freak injuries. Kela too used to be injury prone, his progress got hurt since then He had a great test series against visiting Aussies in 2017 That was the best i saw from him Lone Wolf 1

That team had jansen who got smacked around a bit by these guys too. You pick players who do well in A tours. give them a chance especially where your seniors are duds. batting in s.africa isnt difficult if you have a good backfoot game. we lost because of **** batting. strokeless wonders getting favourable selection calls over deserving batsmen. ofcourse injuries dint help. rohit, gill, sundar, jadeja etc. not to mention some A tour guys would have been handy. no need for ashwin who is uesless in SEN. could have gone with chahar at 8 and thakur at 7. all out pace. their is massive gap in A tours n international ...manish pandey was a legend of A games

Too many unknown variables. In NZ Agarwal was an epic flop. Iyer scored 3 back to back fifties They have played 5 innings together. Iyer comfortably outperformed Agarwal. For all the negatives Agarwal oscillates between a dominating batsman and utterly mediocre batsman. Nothing in between. Agarwal flopped at open and iyer scored in middle but watch the games NZ bowled to his strength now everyone knws his weakness which is why he has failed in Aus n SA. Remember even rayudu scored a 90 in NZ coz nz didnt have lockie that day Thats shudnt be even compared coz two batted at diff slots Mayank is best player of spin , he shud have no problem n as far as gaps goes these days it only 4 fielders n clearing grounds isnt a problem nowdays Iyer goes from mediocre to medicore (he isnt even attacking enough)
vvvslaxman Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 One more thing. Mayank was given a work over with short stuffs in Australia. He had no clue very much like Iyer. He missed a match because he was hit on the head by Siraj's bouncer. Got hit by NOrtje's bouncer on the head. India should try someone like Shubman Gill in the long run. He is actually quiet good against spin.

In one dayers if anything opening is supposed to be easier given that you can go at your own pace. No need of slamming bowlers from the word go. If he can't do his job in his familiar position what is the guarantee he will do well in the middle order. Besides we assume he exclusively will face spinners. And also Iyer can be a monster against spin as well. More lethal than Agarwal can be. He doesn't have top gear like KL Rahul has. He will be like another Manish Pandey who is a better player against pace in the end overs than Agarwal can be.

Playing as opener all his life right? At the age of 30 converting him into a middle order finisher is a futile exercise given how many times he has flattered to deceive. Just continue with Iyer and eventually find a younger guy to replace him in the long run. We don't want the whole Rayudu experiment again.

Another thing the role is completely different. He has never played that role in his life. Suddenly pushing him down the order and expecting him to do well is not ideal when we have far too many young batsmen we can use.

He then did just as well in International games too.
vvvslaxman Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 For what its worth this is not a move they will entertain. SKY and Iyer will occupy these spots. Once ROhit is back. Rohit/Dhawan/Kohli/Iyer or Sky/Rahul/Pant. With guys like Kishan/Shaw/Gill waiting in the wings ship has sailed for Agarwal. He should first establish his place in the Test side first.

Im sorry but Kohli's form is on the permanent decline, he may score a good knock here and there, but he is finished. I know your a Kohli fan so let me say this about your King. At his peak around that 2014 period, he was not only peerless in cricket but some of his batting performances were Bradmanesque like in nature. If I had to chose a player to bat for my life in an ODI run chase at their peak especially in a bilateral tournament in India, I would take Kohli over SRT. No doubt about that whatsoever. @express bowling@Vijy@raki05 raki05 and Vijy 2
