Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) We need a batsman who can destroy spin in middle specially wrist spin considering Kohli, KL , Rohit all have issues against it . So need a batsman in between them to stop opposition using it big time. As of now i really like pant at 4 coz he can destroy any kind of bowling and is bringing the intent in middle overs. He is kind of reminding me of yuvi and he already has shown that he likes pressure situations as well. Now lets talk about the backup - which currently is iyer but why not mayank Mayank Vs iyer Mayank is currently one of the best players of spin in country , iyer ppl forget also has issues against quick wrist spin. (btw sky also is quite destructive against wrist spin) Mayank is obv a better player of pace as well, including short ball (although not as good rohit or KL but still way better then Iyer) . I was reading a stat that iyer last 20 dismissal include around 80% by short ball means everyone , Raina at his worst had 78% by short ball. Means teams are targetting iyer now Mayank aggresive game is better then iyer So why not Mayank, he also doesnt players inning building issues like kishen or shaw (young guys who are learning) very important in ODI Edited February 4, 2022 by Ankit_sharma03 diga, Norman and tweaker 3
Lord Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 For now it can be Mayank, but I'd like Sundar to be tried maybe after 2023 WC. His game is suited to it and will give us extra bowling option.Hitting ability will develop as he plays more
Lone Wolf Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Our TM & selectors don't have innovative mindset like that. Aussies pushed Mitchell Marsh at no 3 & developed Wade as finisher & it won them a WT20. We don't have flexibility. Rahul Dravid pushed KL to open in SA ODIs knowing how well he was doing at no 5 for us. So expect another set of musical chairs at middle order & then WC 2023 will be right upon us. KL was captain, nobody pushed him. Everyone wants to bat in top order when chance comes. Norman, Vijy, Lone Wolf and 1 other 1 3
SRT100 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Indian cricket is so stupid and backwards, expect both to hardly play before the WC, then expect both to play in the WC. Then wonder why we dont win World Cups. We should be playing both of these guys, why does Kohli need to play in a mindless insignificant bilateral series vs WI and SL????? Vijy 1

As if they had to face Steyn, Rabada, Nortje, Morne . Bloddy he was licking his lips by seeing Mangala, Lungi and petrotious and still shat in his pants. He thought he ll do some easy stats padding whole TM want to protect interest of senior batters. Batting Position should not be jaagir of anyone but unfortunately it is right now. Vijy 1

Rahul if he doesn't want to play at 5, he can go f himself tbh. Dud cannon prick can't open. He never should be opening in any format. I don't care how well he fluked a big innings score in one bloody innings back in England. Dude can't open. He csnt play moving ball. Pant at 3 Mayank at 4 KL at 5 Pandu at 6 Thakur at 7 Axar at 8 Bishnoi Chuckrah Siraj Vijy 1
Jay Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Tbh I am starting to get a little tired of this meek weak twat KL. Grow a pair. Stand up for your team. Be aggressive. Show intent. Show some passion Ffs. Such a boring guy to watch.

sandeep Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Neither. Mayank is another flavor of Shreyas - a limited batsman who has made big runs in domestic, but has a ceiling. Yes, Mayank has proven to be a more effective batsman, slightly better temperament etc. But its not really that big an upgrade. And I'd rather we look for similar calibre batsmen who can present a bit of bowling option as well.

vvvslaxman Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Mayank has an issue against moving ball regardless of where he bats. He is no different from Manish Pandey. If anything Manish Pandey has lesser weakness than either of these two players. Iyer's positive is he can really hit big and produce massive overs. Agarwal has a good range of shots. I am not sure if he will be good enough for kedar jadhav type of roles. Outside powerplay we have no clue how he will bat.. Pant has the same issue. Once the field is in and out he struggles to rotate the strike. Relies largely on risky slogs. Despite weakness only resaon I back Iyer is he is more level headed than these guys. kohli 1
Majestic Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) Neither. Mayank is an opener. He has always opened the batting in all forms of the game. The simple rule is pick Shaw or Kishan as opener and have Gill as backup no.4. 1.Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Shaw, Kishan( 5 top order bats, no KLR) 2. KLR, Pant, Gill, SKY ( middle order bats). No longer sold on Shreyas after his overseas performance in Aus and SA. But I can have him in reserves as next WC is in India and also can bowl few overs. 3. Batting A/R ( H Pandya). Not sure about Sundar as he may end up playing some match losing knock at 5 or 6 and it is too late now to experiment him as a batsman at 4-5 for 2023 WC and if you want to pick him for 7-8, then better have either Jadeja or Axar. Venky, Hooda etc are below par( especially for ODI format). Pandya is the only standard option here and that is assuming he can bowl 4-5 overs every game. 4. Bowling A/R( Jadeja, D Chahar, Shardul, Axar). Best bet on D Chahar as he picks wickets up front and can bat at 7 too. Axar may pick wickets but he is more of a no 8. Jadeja and Shardul can bat higher but they are not wicket takers. 5. Spinners ( Living on the hope that Bishnoi produces something special) 6. Fast bowlers who can bowl 140 consistently ( Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh, Shami). Third pacer can be D Chahar. No Bhuvi anymore. This will be my overall list of players who I see it in the mix. Nothing against them but I see no Ruturaj or Mayank or anyone else for '23 WC. Edited February 4, 2022 by Majestic

Never seen such a injury prone player in quite sometime. He will be lucky to have any sort of consistent career.
