This is a tour where most didn't give them a real chance of winning the series anyway. Just like Pak bent over and served up 7 wickets for 20 in the 1st dig, that is always a possibility on D5. Test cricket doesn't play out according to 'extrapolation' from the first 20 overs, especially not in the 4th innings. Its interesting that some folks have such confidence to spout opinions when not in possession of any first-hand facts or information. Hey, I guess one can view it as a positive quality in some respects. First part: it doesn't work that way. In a Test, you work session by session. Aussies clearly lost that last session. They could come back and get Pak bowled out tomorrow, but in that case, their margin of victory would be lesser than if they had declared later. The whole point of letting the opposition play out the last session is to get wickets, which they failed to do. Second part: Did you watch the entire day's play? I have to laud some folks' bandwidth to watch 6 hours of a 30 hour game in which their home country (or country of residence) is not playing on a weekday. Wish I had the time!
Norman Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Pakistan doesn't deserve to win this test match after playing like **** for 4 days and picking 13 Australian wickets. Exactly why that Adelaide defeat in 2014 didn't bother me that much as we just did not deserve to win that game as we only got a glimmer due to Clarke's generous declaration. putrevus 1

Agree, only one team deserves to win , and its not Pakistan . Australia played better cricket in this test and in the series.

Pressure cooker situation and chasing down 350 plus is good no matter what.
Vijy Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 should be an easy win for greenbros if they don't collapse as they tend to do. Cummins was over-aggressive in his declaration - another stupid decision following his decision in 2nd test.

Babar is peak kphli Shafique> Sehwag Rizwan> pant But that's all they have.

Lyon and swepson do not inspire much confidence. unless greenbros shoot themselves in the foot by collapsing, an easy victory is doable

But given their recent test record, Aussies are likely to lose. In fact, they are the only test team in recent history which has frequently struggled to defend 300+ totals in 4th inning. We hv enough evidence. Viz: 2019 Ashes, Could not defend 399 against Eng. 2021 (Gabba): Could not defend 330 against India. Vijy 1
Serpico Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Cummins and Starc can potentially bowl 40 overs today. With good lines, if they can restrict them to 2.5 per over, that leaves with 220 runs to get from 50 overs. Lyon will probably bowl 30 as swepson is bowling too many loose balls. Even if they attack him, he can try negative lines and manage the rate to 3.5. So around 100 runs from the 20 overs of sweps and green. Definitely possible if Rizwan and babar come to party but will have to take some risks. But if starc starts leaking like last year, its game over for Aus
Serpico Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 If the ball doesn't reverse in first session, they should just bowl negative lines with leg side fields. No point in taking 2nd new ball, by the time it reverses, umpires will say only spinners can bowl due to light issue

No matter what tools they have to use. They will not resort to anything negative and just play aggressive cricket.

Hazelwood was bowling negative lines for a couple of overs until umpire started calling them wides at Gabba in the last hour. I think they were too proud to bowl negative lines early on, in front of home crowds. Even if not an entire meter outside leg, they can still set a legside field and bowl onto leg stump like Ashwin to Smith. The only way they are taking top order wickets is with reverse swing, if the ball isn't doing anything, they are dead in the water
QuarantineTormentino Posted March 25, 2022 Author Posted March 25, 2022 Will be very surprised if Pakistan don’t win here

Rest assured if Aussies try that they will get wided
