IPL 2022 teams first impression

All 10 teams have played 1 game each, therefore, here is the first impression (as the tourney, a 2-month event, progresses, team dynamics may change). I am NOT looking into which team has what kind of "holes" but the ability to win with some combination of batting, bowling, & fielding.  In alphabetical order in respective groups:

Tier 1

DC (Group A)

  • A batting dominant side. Great top 5 at full strength - Warner, Shaw, M Marsh, Pant, & Powell. Supported by Thakur & Axar
  • Some impactful bowlers such as Nortje & Kuldeep. Fizz, if in form and played in the 11

PK (Group B)

  • Similar to DC, i.e. a batting dominant side with Agarwal, Dhawan, SRK, Livingston, Rajapakse, & Bairstow
  • A top drawer bowler in Rabada, supported by R Chahar & Arshdeep

RCB (Group B)

  • As has been the tradition at RCB, a good batting unit with Faf, Maxwell, Kohli (anchor), & DK, supported by some talented Indian batsmen
  • Bowling: One of the better bowling sides with Hazlewood, Siraj, Harshal, & Hasaranga

RR (Group A)

  • A strong top 5
  • A top 3 bowling attack

Tier 2

CSK (Group B)

  • Good batting esp. if many of the "has been" show up
  • Without D Chahar, the bowling needs to step up

KKR (Group A)

  • Batting is a mixed bag
  • Bowling a mixed bag too

MI (Group A)

  • Batting too reliant on Indian batsmen esp. the form of SKY
  • Bowling reliant on the unreliable Bumrah

SRH (Group B)

  • At this point, over reliant on KW for stability. Need to see who strikes form in the tournament
  • Bowling has some interesting pace bowlers like Umran but lacks game changing spin combinations

Dark Horses

GT (Group B)

  • Batting is packed with big hitters so it could be a team where a bunch of them are scoring quick 20-30-40. The team will also have days where a couple of big hitters have a great day
  • A top 3 bowling attack which can further be strengthened by utilizing bowlers in form

LSG (Group A)

  • Strong batting esp. when Stoinis & Holder return
  • Bowling is a mixed bag and will have to work as a group

Let's see if the teams live up to expectations or surprise us by improving themselves as the tournament progresses!

Here is what will happen- every side has gapping holes in their construction so they will look good one day and poor` other.

Reason

  • T20 is that kind of format
  • sides anyways have structures issue and all sides- KKR looked good in one game but their poor death bowling in squad came back to bite them, Same will happen with RR also the day they are on the bad side of dew
  • Teams are getting movement in intial overs but as tournament progress it wont happen much then same bowlers will travel
  • Team that faces the worse of dew will obv struggle
  • Teams like DC, RCB, LSG will be strengthened once theiir overseas players come
  • Sides that have arsenal for condition are doing well but what happens when conditions changes

So their wud be a lot of ups n down

Buddy, why are you writing such basics? The thread is on first impressions, you can write on the first impression that the teams have made on you (I.e. looking at their first games so RCB & KKR would not count as they have played 2 games now)

Coz game is about basics.

The only impression i had is some got favourable conidtions sme didnt , some had players for those conditions.

Because the group games are to be played at a handful of venues, the curators have left grass on the pitches to make the them not tire quickly, and therefore the pitches are assisting pace bowlers relatively more with the new ball.

Late April - May, we could see more spin coming into play.

Playoffs are expected to be played at a different venue.

For those seeking information on groups:

Group A

MI

KKR

RR

DC

LSG

Group B

CSK

SRH

RCB

PK

GT

Teams in the same group play against each other twice, and once against 4 teams in the other group + twice against the team in its parallel position in the other group (so for e.g. MI & CSK will play twice, KKR and SRH twice, & so on)

From tomorrow (Apr 6th), CA contracted Aus players would be eligible to play.

Also from tomorrow, if I am not wrong, the crowd at the stadiums would be at 50% capacity versus the current 25%.

I don't have a good feeling about :mi: for this season. The side doesn't have a reliable bowling attack.

You can always support :gt: :dontknow:

For a place in the playoffs, to keep it simple, first teams should aim to have a 50% win ratio (of course if you win more games than 50%, even better), then hope for the best (various permutations & combinations) ... To get to that 50% win ratio:

  • GT, RCB, & RR -> 4 of remaining 10 games (effort needed 40%)
  • KKR & LSG -> 4 of remaining 9 games (effort needed 44%)
  • DC, PK, & SRH -> 5 of remaining 10 games (effort needed 50%)
  • CSK & MI -> 7 of remaining 10 games (effort needed 70%)
