Hi,

I'm ready with the record of bowlers in IPL 2022 during the different phases of the game: Power Play Overs (1-6), Middle Overs (7-15) and Death Overs (16-20).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LPZXRA00fx1xa-0bZueV51XvXhhAl2uw5OYp1zWdcjY/edit?usp=sharing

Here is my methodology for arriving at the desired PP bowlers:

1) Compile a list of all bowlers who bowled in the PP overs.

2) Filter these bowlers to Indian bowlers.

3) Filter Indian bowlers to Indian pacers.

4) Filter Indian pacers to those pacers who have bowled 2 or more than 2 overs per match in this phase. Since every team has played 5 matches, so I filtered all Indian pacers who have bowled 10 or more than 10 overs so far.

5) Finally, sort them on Strike Rate because I'm interested in wicket-taking PP bowlers.

Here's what I see:

Now, there are three possible ways I can use my PP strike bowler:

1) 3-1-0: 3 overs in the PP phase and 1 over in the middle phase.

2) 2-2-0: 2 overs in the PP phase and 2 overs in the middle phase.

3) 2-1-1: 2 overs in the PP phase and 1 over each in the middle and death phase.

that wud depend on ur other 2 bowlers but its always better to have a bowler who can bowl in any situation atleast one over

havent any spinners bowled in PP this season ?

I filtered out the spinners because, except Sundar, the rest have bowled as transition bowlers.

You can play around with the sheet by removing all filters and then adding those which suit you.

Here's the record if I include Spinners along with Pacers and filter them for having bowled at least 1 over in PP, i.e. 5 or more overs in the PP phase.

I want to hear experts' views about Sundar because I'm clueless about his role and ability in the bowling.

As bowler he shud enjoy aussie pitches with that extra bounce, but ill always prefer ashwin over him as bowler . Massive diff of quality

We'll find strike spinners in our record of the middle-phase bowlers. And these strike spinners will have bowled 1 over in the PP phase. So, PP phase is not the right phase to identify your spinners. You identity them in the middle-phase and then check their record in the PP phase and Death phase.

Sundar is a versatile player, he is slightly better than Jaddu with the bat and miles better than him with the ball. He can bowl in the powerplay or in the middle overs whatever is required of him and can easily bat at any position from no.6-8

Sundar, Hardik and Krunal

these three in one lineup will give very good flexibility in t20is

Not idenifying on these basis but if some one can thats a bonus. See their wud be many good options in end ull need to see who gives something extra

I am more clueless about when will Ashwin's ability translate into performance in limited overs or even IPL. The guy has produced extremely mediocre results.

Umesh has been a revelation. Shame he hasn't been 1st choice in previous IPLs.

In PP, strike rate is gold, even if someone goes for ER 10, but manages to pick 1-2 wkts in every game puts team in good position.

So, Bhuvi is the worst of the lot when it comes to PP bowling?

Natarajan's death over strike rate is impressive. Arshdeep has been most economical. Harshal has a reasonable economy but not enough wickets at the death which is slightly surprising. Arshdeep ,Khaleel and Natarajan will be competing for a left armers spot methinks.

Prasidh has been both wicket taking as well as economical during PP.

Plus his hit the deck bouncy bowling style is most suited to Australia.

Plus he is ok in the middle overs too.

Plus we will have Bumrah and Harshal to bowl at the death

Which is why Prasidh is my PP Pacer pick for the T20 World Cup.
