Ram Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Manpreet Gony, cant find much info him. This is what cricinfo says bout him, 'Manpreet Gony, a medium-pacer, made his first-class debut for Punjab in 2007-08. He was consistent in the four-day games but caught the eye in the one-dayers, among the few bright spots in North Zone's dismal Deodhar Trophy campaign which he finished as the highest wicket-taker. That persuaded Chennai Super Kings to include him in their squad for the Indian Premier League though he had no Twenty20 experience. Cricinfo Staff (April 2008)' He is 24 years old and is surely a bit more than medium pace. Looked quite impressive, didnt he ? Good build, nice easy action and decent pace. He is definitely a prospect for the future. What do you guys think?
Cricketics Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 saw him bowl for Nort zone recently in deodhar trophy trmnt.. is a good prospect surely.. but needs to bowl more and more.. hope he continues to do well.. twenty20 is a great tester.. and he will be tested here big time. 13 more games to go.. lot of opportunities pending for him to come and perform..
guju24 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 ya if he can get some more experience and gets good coaching then him and ishant will be a good opening patner for indian pace attack in future time...
Ram Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 Maybe we can convert this thread into a ' Future prospects found in IPL' thread. The thing I like most about Gony is his action. Its very smooth and natural. There is no hustle and bustle, which means he will always have decent control of his line and length. With regards to pace, in his first over, his balls were timed at 135, 137, 141 and 136, which is faster compared to guys like Zaheer, Agarkar and Munaf and Pathan.
gator Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 He is 6'4 and built like an ox... he is generating far less pace than he can generate because he loses all his momentum at the point of delivery... he comes to a standstill and puts in all his shoulder and gets the ball to kick up off a good length... he bowls a heavy ball... i think, a few months with Venky, our bowling coach, can get him into the 145's... When Ishant was picked, he was also in his 135's... a couple of months with Venky during tours and we had Ishant crank it up to 150kph... Gony is someone to definitely watch out for.... he also handled the pressure well and was not overawed...
msb1991 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I doubt that Prasad made Ishant bowl faster. I am pretty sure that it was motivation from the fast pitches combined with some high reading speed guns (Star Cricket speed guns were about 5kph slower than the Aussie ones which had him at 150kph, IIRC). I don't think that Gony loses his momentum due to slowing down at the crease, he merely gathers himself. He has a good action and I feel that he just needs to bowl a generally fuller length rather than bowling bouncers every other ball. It is promising to see an Indian clock at 140kph. Without the IPL, people would not have heard of him. Hopefully the BCCI will learn to publicise non-IPL domestic games more often just so good talent shine through like Gony has.
King Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I'm not impressed yet. He needs a lot of work. Mind you, I said the same about Ishant Sharma.
msb1991 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 He is nowhere near the finished product, but he is a talent nonetheless.
Gambit Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Which team is Pankaj Singh playing for? Rajasthan Royals.
rkt.india Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 yeah he is a bright prospect, Manpreet Gony, Tall 6 foot 4 inches, good pace with some coaching he can certainly improve his run up and rhythm. I like tall fast bowlers....Sudeep Tyagi is also a man to watch out for..
The Outsider Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Anyone clocking more than 135 consistently should be treated as a prized possession in India. The guy got it up to mid 140s on occasions and should really be given attention to develop.
umpire Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 he impressed Bishop no end. Bishop knows a lot of fast bowling. Looks like Gony will soon be in A team.
