What would be your preferred no.7 among

Should a no.7 be a batsman or should he just be able to hold bat? Batting All-rounder or bowling all-rounder?

For me, it depends on the team combo.

 

If we have a bowling heavy team with weak batting, I will chose the better bowler. Sounds counterintuitive, but now I would trust my bowlers to defend lower totals.

 

If batting heavy already, I will try to strengthen it further. Target 30 extra to give bowlers a better chance, which they are capable with extra batter.

For Aus, Ideally we dont need a spin AR at all. I'd have punted on Deepak at 7. But for that our top 6 need to be very good.

 

As things stand, we gonna have Kohli and Pant in top 6. And with our aggressive approach, we do need a better bat imo.

For me, India's best most attacking bowling lineup has Boom, Bhuvi, Chahal, Ashwin and a 5th bowler apart from Hardik Pandya - but that 5th bowler has to be a 6 hitter type.  So I'm looking for a better batsman who can bowl 4 overs on a good day but am fine if he can't do that consistently.  But he has to be a high probability boundary hitter as soon as he gets to the crease.  Somebody like that K Goutham dude maybe? but better on both sides of the ball.  Maybe Hooda, or a Tewatia, but I think of Tewatia as a batsman now, who can bowl the occasional over, same as Hooda...

Another crucial tipping point is Hardik. If hes bowling fit and offering 4 overs, we can go for better bat and 6th bowler especially in Aus

Shardul is one bowler I wouldn't trust to defend 20 in last over. I know, it's 'your' opinion, but still. Why not Chahar who 'may' prove a good bowler.

With Hardik bowling, we don't want Shardul, at a min we want variety - either a leftarm like Arshdeep/NAttu , or a variation artist like Harshal, or a spinner.  But yes, Jaddu and Axar are not the answer in my book.  Krunal is like Iyer - not good enough.  But we need somebody in his mould.  A guy who is a smart bowler and a high-probability hitter.

Chahar (if fit) ahead of Shardul in T20s 9 times out of 10.

• Shardul is a better hitter then Chahar 
• shardul offers middle phase bowling, chahar PP for which bhuvi-bumrah-hardik are already in XI
• Shardul can bowl in PP 
• As i told u before Shardul is good on longer grounds and spungy pitches like MCG
• Shardul also kind off is a character who kind of changes the game

Basically shardul i never wanted to ignore in Australia , India hota to sawaal hi nhin uska . 

As a bowler yes he is a compromise as compare to Arshdeep, Chahar but so is jadeja/Axar...............which is why i still consider him

yes , hardik does make a case for Hooda but TM hasnt trusted his bowling enough till now

I would prefer a better bowler and that is Axar. However, in Australia, his bowling might not work and when it comes to batting, I think Jadeja's batting will work in Australia. He is better vs pace than Axar.
