I totally agree with Uthappa here. You cannot 100% blame Hooda for his short coming. He never played that finishing role  for any side. Suddenly you put him there with zero batsman to follow him. It puts him at a serious disadvantage.  Why not KL Rahul coming down the order.

We don't really have a like for like replacement though. Thakur at a stretch but he is more of a bowling all-rounder. A better contingency plan is to have a plan b team.

I have not heard Pujara but believed that he should have been Ind’s test captain.

 

I won’t be surprised to hear about him giving good insights.

Deepak Chahar is one. I think you have to be very good at one role and do a decent job with other role.

Venky Iyer. Obviously a backup, but still better option than likes of Hooda
