sage Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 How do Pakistan turn a profit on this? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2022/09/15/bulletproof-buses-rooftop-snipers-thousands-police-keep-england/ The streets of Karachi will be lined with up to 7,500 police officers and rooftop snipers to protect the England team on their first tour to Pakistan for 17 years. Jos Buttler’s side will travel in bulletproof buses along closed roads during the seven-match Twenty20 series which will be played under presidential-level security. Buttler became the first captain to lead an England side in Pakistan since Michael Vaughan in 2005 when his squad of 19 arrived in Karachi on Thursday. The team were met by the scale of the security operation in operation for their stay. Between 5,000-7,500 police will line closed roads to the stadium, with helicopters following the team bus. Shops and offices on the route will be closed and rooftop snipers will be in position along the way. Armed guards are stationed outside the team hotel with plain-clothed security officers also on patrol. Heavily armed guards will drive alongside the team bus, which is one of eight bulletproof vehicles owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board, as the authorities stick to a security plan negotiated over the course of eight months between the England and Wales Cricket Board, Professional Cricketers’ Association and government officials. The sign that this was no ordinary tour was obvious to Buttler, with more than 70 reporters and 25 television cameras covering his arrival press conference. “Visually, it seems over the top, but of course it is there to make sure everything runs smoothly,” said Buttler. “After a day or two, you get used to it, focus on the cricket and look forward to playing.” BBC have decided not to send a commentary team to cover England’s first tour to Pakistan for 17 years. It is understood a combination of cost savings and security protocols are behind the decision.

Lone Wolf Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Man Pakistani stadiums are so pathetic... Old concrete structures. NSK Karachi is like the ones from the 80's or 90's...

nevada Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 All nautanki. The real "security measure" is most likely distribution of money to the pet rogue elements to keep quiet during the series and a promise of logistical support to carry out attacks across the border after the series is over.
speed_thrills Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 As Pakistani say their hospitality is legendary. Hope Butler and Co have a blast in Pakistan.
