BCCI "obligated" to get ICC a tax waiver on the event; if that doesn't happen, the BCCI's share of the ICC's central revenue pool will take a hit

The BCCI stands to lose between US$58-116 million from its share of the ICC's central revenue pool as a result of the tax imposed by the Indian government on the global cricket body for hosting the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup in India. The marquee event is scheduled to be played in India in October-November next year.

BCCI shouldn’t mind making some less “profits” and generating revenues for the govt too.

I can expect govt to waive taxes for once in a generation (or even a century) events like the Olympics. ICC events take place far too often in India.

Up to the govt!

wtf does "obligated" mean?

who came up with that obligation, on what basis?

ICC doesn't want to pay taxes.

58m is like a drop in the bucket for BCCI

Not really. 58 million is a huge amount no matter what. Close to 500 cr rupees. Narendra Modi stadium was made in 800 cr.

Not a single rupee must go out from the Indian taxpayers' pockets to the ICC. Let the BCCI deal with them.

But it's not going from Indian tax payer's pocket? It's tax on the money earned by ICC cricket World Cup from sponsors, broadcasters and ticket sales. Same thing is talked about every time an ICC event is held in India.

Less tax collected by govt means higher fuel prices. It will eventually come out of our pockets.
