the don Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 If the ball swings England are done. If its flat i think England can outbat India.

If England get a brisk start and no swing on offer, Axar will bowl against Butler Hales in PP. Moreover Adelaide is really really dry, can't go with lone spinner. My take exactly . We have a bang average side no doubt but we have to use whatever is available to us to the best ,assess the conditions and the opponents and then decide the playing 11. The match between pak and Bangladesh showed one thing ,it's a dry wkt and a bit slow . Axar can be used against the right handers and especially in the PP if required ,Ashwin against the left handers. Number 1
AKane Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 India did not handle the pace of SA well. Except for Kohli, India did not handle the pace of Pak well. We have to see how India handles Wood and Woakes vs Eng. Spin wise England has Rashid too (and to a lesser extent Moeen). Finally India has depended a lot on the youngster Arshdeep... he got Rizwan and Babar and Quinton and Riley for scores of 4, 0, 1, 0. Hopefully he or someone is effective against Buttler and Hales because if they bat 7 or 8 overs - the match will be done and dusted. England is going to study Arshdeep films carefully now.
Lord Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Keeping expectations low. We made heavy work of games v Zim and BD. Eng can just bat us out on a relatively flat Adelaide pitch.

India has had its share of luck with the Pak choke job and the Litton Das runout vs BD and could strike out on the luck factor. Edited November 7, 2022 by AKane

Given that we played at Perth & MCG the batters did reasonably well, though they should've done better especially against Pak! Going forward what they need to do is try to play those chip shots that SRT, Sehwag, Ganguly, GG were really adept at. I'm not sure why they're gone out of fashion, if the ball is bouncing a lot or zipping past you try to clear the infield, SRT was excellent in that dept & really these guys just try to hit fours/sizes or hit it straight to the fielder like RGS With their experience particularly from IPL it's one of the worst attempts I've seen in recent times, heck Dhawan was better at it than the current lot!

R!TTER Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Axar will play 99% unless there's some injury issues somewhere, our TM is very conservative most of the times.

Frustrated Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Biggest concern regarding Axar is that he looked ineffective even against right handers in this tournament. Ifti chacha smashed 22 off his one over. Even Zim's right handed batters smashed him. I think he needs to bring in more variations (like Santner does). May be a slower ball or something. I hv seen Santner sometimes holds up his action a bit and delays the release. Axar on the other hand looks more of a darter.
R!TTER Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 He should try to be a bit more inventive as well, why not bowl over the wicket to righties like Yuvraj, Sanath, Clarke, Vettori used to bowl? These guys just have a plan A & seem brain dead when that doesn't work!

Krunal could have been a better replacement of Jaddu. Or just Thakur. Not necessary to play 2 spinners Frustrated 1

R!TTER Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 5 minutes ago, Lord said: apart from Vettori, all those options won't work in modern T20 in Oz It's still better than darting the bowl in to a rightie, with Axar, & why shouldn't it work? Sanath did that on much easier tracks against Oz & many other teams down under, it's a slightly - lot safer option because the ball is going across the right hander. So long as you don;t bowl too short or too full it's actually a much better way to bowl on fast tracks in Oz because playing across the line can lead to a leading edge & if just one turns again edge or stumping comes into play. You have to be confident & execute the lines/lengths well over the wicket!

Pace does not trouble him much. Its only the swing. But if Bhuvi does not generate swing in his initial spell, we are toast.

Also he has been very tentative against left armers
