Rohit Sharma's performance as Indian captain

I have no hope from Rohit's captaincy. When things are going well he looks a million bucks but when the opposition puts him under a slight bit of pressure he completely wilts. Totally reactive captain. Anything less than 0-5 will be a miracle for this team tbh.

In T20s if you exclude Rohit, rest of our batsman probably scored 3/4 hundreds from 2007 to 2020? That's like a hundred every 3-4 years. Likes of Dhawan, Rahane, to a lesser extent Kohli all tried to boost their averages in T20s like ODIs.

Now we see T20 hundreds every series. Full credit to captain Sharma

We used to see it in bilaterals earlier as well. Recall even Deepak Hooda scoring a 100 in a bilateral. Problem was we used to play youngsters in bilaterals and then we used to see the "seniors" walk into the team to shyte the bed in ICC tourneys.

there were only 3 centuries ( excl rohit ) before 2022  - 2 by KL Rahul and 1 by Raina in 15 years after we started taking T20 cricket seriously .  Hooda & all the other 100s you see are after Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

That's true as well since Rohit did change the way team played T20 cricket. But we could've been so much better had we dropped seniors earlier or played the same way in 2022 WT20 the way we played the last one.

And who's fault is it? Fat arse cap himself took way too long to settle in any game, it was always Dhawan who provided the impetus at front!

Average captain. Visionary thread by @zen charansparsh :adore:

Got captaincy In khairat after Kohli-Ganguly saga. Nothing else..

Would've been a better option if he had been nominated captain after Dhoni instead of Kohli becoming the captain. That time Rohit was in his prime and would've been a great option to be the captain. He got captaincy too late when he was past it.

That suddenly didnt make him tactically dumb. He was always pathetic tactically but was saved by MI scouting. In Tests hes no way near even Kohli

It helps when you get captaincy in your prime. And Rohit was pretty good in IPL and won quite a few close games. Rohit was the only one who was able to go one-up on Dhoni. Never saw Kohli do that.

And didn't see Kohli do anything meaningful as a captain other than dumb decisions and selections. Opted to bowl on a patta against Pak in 2017 CT Final after benching Umesh & Shami, benched Shami in 2019 WC SF, played two freaking spinners in WTC Final when pacers when conditions demanded playing an all-seam attack. All he did was win at home which we would've under any captain.

Rahane was a better captain than Kohli. He was the one who led a weakened team full of youngsters to a win over Aus in Aus, and he was the one who helped us beat Aus in Ind at Dharamshala in 2017 IIRC when Kohli wasn't playing. Take out Rahane's contributions as captain/vice-captain and Kohli doesn't have anything of note as a captain.

In IPL  there are lot of factors at play. MI had a gun team with Bumrah/Malinga/Pollard etc. Its tough NOT to win with that.

We saw Rohit's great captaincy in NZ series. Its tough to imagine he would have been great earlier. Kohli was poor in LOIs and Rahane was better in Tests but that doesn't make Rohit great. Its because of his dumb captaincy we lost WC last year. Easily one of the worst captains we have had

After Dhoni? In 2014 he was pathetic in tests even as batter, 5 test old he was.  He is nowhere near Kohli as captain in tests. Kohli was only option after Dhoni in 2014. This guy was struggling to make it to even XI . Kohli did well in test format as captain.

IN LOIs, it is debatable but Kohli as batter was at his peak in 2017 when Dhongi gave up captaincy. Kohli will always be superior batter and captain compared to Rohit. Rohit has brought shame to country as captain nothing else.

You're right. Not for Tests and Kohli was the only option for Tests. But in LOI Rohit was a better option. Selectors should've given Test captaincy to Kohli but the shorter formats one to Rohit. That time Rohit was the best captain in IPL by a huge margin and the only time any Indian captain looked better than Dhoni.

We saw Kohli not able to win any IPL with a star studded lineup with Gayle, ABDV, Maxwell etc. They consistently had a better team than most of other IPL teams, and definitely better than CSK and they lost. That should've been enough for selectors not to go with Kohli.

And Kohli replicated the same with India by unable to win despite a prime Bumrah and Shami with Kuldeep at his disposal. He couldn't win even one tourney despite India consistently being one of the favorites. Rohit was able to get past the finish line and that counts.

nah Rohit was lucky it was SA who choked. He did nothing special except tossing the ball to Bumrah.

as for IPL, RCB never had great bowling attack to win on those pattas.

in Tests its not even a debate. Rohit is the worst having been whitewashed by mediocre Kiwis at home.
