Fleming confirmed it was deliberate in 2002 itself. He said he wanted to keep India down in spirits for world cup 2003. So they rolled out drop-in pitches.  Whoever batted last would get the advantage. Miraculously NZ won the tosses both times. They won two tests. Not easily though. They also collapsed like India.  In ODI also they rolled out similar pitches. Even scoring 50 was  a hard ask. Total 5 batsmen scored 50s. But Viru somehow made 2 centuries on those pitches.

BCCI didn't tour NZ till 2009 as a protest....  Guess f***s got served badly.

And Zak Srinath Nehra bundled them for 120 odd in 2003 world cup important match a month later, as a result they failed to go to Semis.

Defending ICC Men’s World Test Championship winners New Zealand will travel to Pakistan for a first-ever bilateral Test series in more than 20 years later this week. The Black Caps will face the hosts in a two-match Test series and then battle in a three-match ODI series. Tim Southee will lead the Kiwis in Test matches after being appointed as team’s new captain.

It was delibrate but Indian batting talent was so much better than NZ batting talent in that series and their careers. They  still should have won that series. Mentally that Indian batting lineup never had kahoonas like Aussies had that is why I never rate that Indian side under Ganguly that high.They were mentally very weak.
