It was delibrate but Indian batting talent was so much better than NZ batting talent in that series and their careers. They  still should have won that series. Mentally that Indian batting lineup never had kahoonas like Aussies had that is why I never rate that Indian side under Ganguly that high. They were mentally very weak.

Batting last was much easier in those tests. Anyone who batted first on day 1 were like lambs to slaughter.

but gulf in quality of those sides in terms of batting talent should have been more than enough for India to win. Indian batting never had spine even though they had talent. The same batting core toured each country multiple times but never could establish any sort of superemacy anywhere even in 2009 when facing the weakest NZ team they almost lost the second test.

Most of the times against Australia they lost before they even came to ground

Kohli's teams did not have that batting talent so it is somewhat understandable for them to flop..

no, he enjoys bending over and babar enjoys him bent over. he'll be back soon since rizwan has powerful backers. when the selection panel, he'll be back

Likewise Ganguly didn't have the bowlers and ARs that Kohli had. In tests the bowlers win matches. He also became the captain just after the fixing scandal when the team was at an all time low and BCCI wasn't as powerful as it is now.

Despite that Ganguly's team gave the biggest challenge to the GOAT Aussie side both home and away. Drew in England, won in Pakistan against a fairly strong team. We could have also won the 2003-04 Aussie series if we had just one bowler like Bumrah.

Don't forget before Ganguly, India had won just 1 away test match(that too vs a weak SL) in 15 long years(1986-01)!!

That aussie great side of 2000-2006 is not much better than the post 2018 aussie side at home. This aussie side has even better bowling overall.

Well the 2000 Aus side had an insane batting lineup from top to bottom. They had Gilchrist at no 7!

I do agree that the current Aussie side has a better pace attack overall but it does not have a spinner of the calibre of Warne.

Smith is equal to 2 players tbh

Labu is as good as Martyn etc

Warner is a bigger home bully than Hayden

Head is looking good

Khawaja is no slouch.

Naa bhai. I used to hate the 2000 Aussie with passion but will admit they where class apart in batting.

Smith is only marginally better than Ponting (not x2). Even Ponting averaged close to 60 in his prime and was more attacking.

Hayden was overall a better opener than Warner because of his overseas performances.

Khawaja is decent but Langer was better and his career was twice as long as Khawaja's.

Head doesn't come close to Steve Waugh who batted at no 5 or 6 with Gilchrist still to come at no 7.

Only Labuschagne is better than his 00s conterparts (Damein Martyn, Mark Waugh) but he still has long way to go in his career.
