Shortlist of 20 players looks like a nice way of protecting the TTFs and keeping out promising youngsters.

Almost all the players who have been part of the 2019, 2021 and 2022 World Cup failures will be in the 20.

Our selectors put the WC on a pedestal as if they want to put their best foot forward but end up screwing our chances well before the tournament begins! Firstly, they should treat it like any other tournament and secondly, pick players on current form. Like a deer frozen in the headlights, they seem to lose their thinking capacity when a WC is still 15-18 months away, and tend to stick to "safe" choices of washed up players, ignoring all up and coming players.

Our WC failures are a result of those seeds being placed well before the tournament, both with the management of players, not setting up contingency plans and picking the wrong players for the tournament and not identifying that our experienced players have consistently failed at WC tournaments.

News from Jan 2018:

Indian women's hockey players acing yo yo test

Highest score 21.1, reached by 4 players (not one Indian cricketer has reached this score from news reports, this includes guys like Kohli, Pandya, Jadeja, Pandey). Lowest was 17.7, imagine 33 Indian women hockey players and not one below this figure!!!

Team average above 18!!!

From 5 years ago, they must have only improved since then looking at their improvement in fitness against Australia and co.

Now imagine what Indian men's hockey team will be scoring in these tests, then what European/Australian men's teams would be scoring.

Levels.....no wonder most sporting powerhouses don't take cricket seriously. A sport designed for unathletic folks, hence the craze in SC.

Apart from fast bowling and being able to bat for hours I agree. However fast bowling in particular if you ever looking to be a good bowler then you need supreme fitness.

Agree, even pace bowlers aren't 'great' athletes, just athletes will do!!!! When compared to hockey, football, contact sports etc. pace bowlers are the only set of cricketers who will qualify as athletes.

I have always said that cricket is primarily skill based sport, that post was just to highlight why it will never be accepted in sporting powerhouses. Heck in USA even soccer and field hockey are seen as girly sports. In Netherlands football/hockey are mighty popular but cricket is seen as a soft sport.

If it's a soft sport then let them have a bat against a fiery fast bowler. Please, I welcome all of them to have a go. Cricket is sort of like baseball but much more dangerous as you can get hurt badly if you dont apply yourself. Get hit one time and they will quit playing lol. Don't get me wrong, I am actually a huge soccer and tennis fan apart from cricket. I don't understand this logic behind why they would think cricket is a girly sport. There is a reason why batsmen have to wear so much padding to protect themselves and even then injuries happen on the regular.

I only consider test cricket as real cricket. Not these paisa leagues.

In general injuries are much worse in contact sports, and way more regular. Field hockey players get hit more than once each game while defending PCs, they don't quit!!! Tennis doesn't involve such injuries but the physical requirements there are a whole different level.

I don't think cricket is a girly sport or whatever that means, just that that is the perception in many countries.

No problem. Their perception is flawed. You can't be a test class player if you aren't physically tough. Training in nets vs a fast bowler is a Nightmare. It was called a blood sport in the past for a reason.

Love how Americans call football a girly sport. Dumb rednecks. All those great nfl and mlb athletes will collapse and have a heart attack if they had to run as much as footballers do in a game.

yes, it's an annoying perception.

Girly sports? Helmet saved so many lives in cricket

Please tell them to bat. Please. Just one ball from bumrah, Cummins or umran would make them quiver and pass pee in their pants. I have been hit a few times in my ribs, arms and finger. I tell you what it freaking hurts alot. I have dished out plenty too. I am a bowler. And that's at sub 125 pace. Imagine these pros bowling at 135-150. It was called a blood sport for a reason. Dumb mericans should stick to mlb, bball and nfl while the entire world plays football.

Crickrt can be a deadly sport if you don't know how to play pace bowling. Nfl is dangerous due to tackling sure. But bball and mlb are not close in terms of danger associated with the sport. Surviving net sessions alone is hard for most batsmen vs pace bowlers.

Yes your career could end in nfl if someone takes you out. In bball for example you can break ankles etc, hurt your elbowsN land awkwardly etc. In crickrt you can literally die or get flatlined if the ball hits you in the wrong spot at 140 plus kms.
