Babar azam is a better ODI batsman than Rohit. Let's get back to the topic. Methinks Ponting is better than Rohit. Rohit scores a lot of soft runs and can only bat at one position.

Yes for Padosis.

Will retire with 4-48 average. His strike rate is going up every match.

Best ever in World Cups (30) matches.

And once you consider peak performance (100 best matches), he is definitely among the very top.

Don't think you guys will laughing now.

Perceptions change among fans quickly anyway. After World Cup, he has become proper ATG.

Unless Gambhir meant across formats. Rohit still behind Ponting in red ball.

My bad.

This thought did not occur to me. I forgot he didn't mention white ball at all. We recognize Ro as a white ball great. It is just ingrained in our brain.

Gambo can't be this wrong :((

Maybe he was trolling, which is his hobby.

I am absolutely loving Rohit 3.0, was not his fan earlier. He's still the best six hitter in the world against quality pacers. Don't mind him playing till WC27 granted that he maintains his form and fitness.

We need explosive openers and a deep batting lineup. We had the former in WC23 but not the latter and that's why we lost the final.

No he is not better than Ponting overall as batsman.

Ponting is an ATG and  the peaks Ponting had in his career are not matched by many batsmen.

Except in finals, yes

Ponting played 4 finals and succeeded in only one. One a flat pitch where Hayden and Gilchrist has already beaten the bowlers to a pulp and demoralised them. If you play so many you are bound to click at least once.  Rohit has played only 1.

How is Rohit not an ATG in ODs? How is scoring 200s for fun not big peak? How many openers have his record?

I will ask again, is there any Indian player apart from Kohli you don't hate or put down? You think putting down other Indian players will somehow make Kohli seem greater?

2013 ct final  - 9

2017 ct final - 0

2014 t20 final - 29(26)

2024 t20 final - 9

I will say Rohit is easily the better ODI batsman, Ponting is overrated in Odis.

In tests there is no comparison.

ODIs were much tougher in Ponting's time.

No they were not,  Rohit never faced the amount of filth which was dished out by Zak and co in 2003 finals .

Rohit would have scored double 100 facing Zak and co.

Ponting is overall a far better batsman than Rohit.

That is not the only good innings he played. Or attack he faced.

We see 300 regularly these days. Then 359/2 was game over in final.

Overall the pitches were more balanced and rules were not so much in batsmen's favour.

Two new balls also is one of the main reasons for higher scores took out reverse swing and spinners from the game.

yes it benefits Rohit. Everyone lines up to open now when in 90s it was considered tough.
