Hatsoff to Jadeja and Ashwin - Golden combination for Indian test cricket

People, in general, have little understanding of how to evaluate stats here:

Jadeja, for e.g., usually only plays selective matches abroad where conditions favor him. On the other hand bowlers like Kumble, played almost all games for India everywhere.

Take India v Aus at Adelaide - there is no Jadeja in the 11 …  But then he would come back and play in Sydney in that test. Similarly, Ashwin who gets rotated but he has played relatively more.

Despite usually only playing when conditions are relatively favourable, these guys have mediocre averages.

Sydney was a flat patta. It used to turn back in the day but for the last 2 decades...its been a hopeless flat track for atleast 4 out of 5 days.

Adelaide had some turn.

Tell me you dont know anything about conditions without saying you dont know anything about conditions.

You will believe 1+1 = 3 while calling others ignorant.

The irony just writes itself.

they really played like headless chickens in this test. I was sure we would lose, and that could have led to more losses.

although we put together a win, I am still pissed off by the top and middle order (incl. iyer)

Yea about iyer. I am not convinced sorry @vvvslaxman

Is he what we need? I thought he could be clutch after his performance vs toygers. Maybe just an injury??

Also we are playing wtc in England where there will be some bounce. Kathakali vs Oz pace or will he finally conquer it?

Team India has become almost unbeatable at home. Not only with these two, Jadeja and Ashwin performing with the ball, they are also providing the most important runs that are the lower order runs. All the top batsmen are struggling against both these quality spinners. They read the batsmen very well and test their technique.

Let's enjoy this golden period of Indian Test Cricket. Do have a look at a fun post match review of the second test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 where India comprehensively beat Australia by 6 wickets :

Based on the dismissals i wouldn't worry too much. First one was fluke catch by Handscomb. Second one he could have "pujaraed" his way to not out. But he wanted to take him on. India needs a player with that mentality in the middle order. Just like England forgives players getting out that way we should give such players benefit of doubt. Irrespective of these 2 dismissals he is still your best bet against spin.

Oval? Oval is as close to an Indian wicket as any.

ICC prepares the pitch, so they will look to spice it up somehow

Yes. I read what you wrote.

You couldnt make it simpler that you dont know what you are talking about.

Plus you dont know how to use stats let alone interpret them.

If you did, you wouldnt be so biased to the point its comical.

Right way to use stat is.

Worst batsman in Indian history at places where ball is likely to swing. This guy has played 29 tests in these parts.

You did not. If you did, you wouldn’t be making a fool out of yourself.

You don’t even “understand” which game India played 2 spinners in (you need depth to understand why a team is starting out with 2 spinners instead of one, how batting stats are influenced too by batting in a relatively more known conditions), which Indian spinner picked up a 5-er in the game, etc.

I am used to dealing with thugs on social media, specializing in selective interpretations (if they find nothing to disagree with, they can even look at spelling errors or highlight some word or sentence randomly , missing the big picture, using logical fallacies, and so on.

Biased? I am not trying to toot the horn of selected Indian spinners.

PS “Irony”!

Lots of words saying nothing.

So if we play 2 spinners...it must be a spin track?

Doesn't matter if the pitch is flat as hell for 3-4 days for the past 2 decades.

2 spinners = spin track.

Newsflash.

We played 2 spinners even in WTC finals. I guess that was a spinners paradise too.

Great logic.

Try again.

There is no need to try again as i have said enough. It is you who is trying in vain foolishly.

On India playing two spinners in WTC final, well, everyone knows exceptions do not make rules (such things don't need to be clarified but who can teach that to a folks drunk on logical fallacies).

Thanks for posting though as your posts gives an example of the type of "folks" I am referred to.

Oh you understand the concept of exceptions don't make rules?

Nice.

Atleast something to work with.

Now work out the part where I said Sydney has been a flat wicket for 2 decades which only spins very late into the test match.

Nathan Lyon averages 31 in Australia.

40 in Sydney.

46 in Sydney first and second innings of the game where the pitch is the flattest.

Even in the 3rd and 4th innings, his average is 34 which is WELL above his career average in Australia.

But but but but its a spin track.

HAHAHAHA

Now THAT's how you do stats.

As I said, you neither understand stats. Nor situation. Nor context.

@zen

I didn't read his post as he is another clueless thug, who tend to thrive on ICF in the company of other such thugs.

This is not a thread on Pujara, who has won India two series in Australia, one for the first time in 70+ years, which overrides other performances (he has redeemed himself). Additionally, he is the only 2013 or onwards top order batsman (# 1-3) to have played like 1476 balls in 52 innings, serving many times as a virtual opener.

Same goes for Ashwin and Jadeja.

They both played a big role in both the Aus series wins 2018 and 2020.

But you whine about them but not Pujara who is a hero to you.

Try again.

And do better next time.

At least first understand what is being discussed. I am referring to familar conditions relatively speaking. And in the test mentioned, spinners picked up close to 2/3rd wkts duh.

Indian bowling won those series. Scoring runs in Australia was not our problem. Heck we made truck load of runs in 1985, 2004.  Even rookies like Sundar, Thakur, Gill made runs there. Agarwal played good knocks on boxing day.  Taking 20 wickets was always our challenge. Ashwin knocked over Smith three times. That is as good as scoring 300 runs.

One guy made 500+ runs in one of the series, which is equivalent to picking up 25+ wkts (if you equate a 100 with a 5-er) in 4 tests ... Many cricketers make small contributions.

Pujara is not a hero to me. No one is (don't make random assumptions) ... I "support" him because he is a old fashioned classical test batsman.
