Six Ranji championships with teams ranging from Mumbai to Vidarbha to Madhya Pradesh.  This cannot be a fluke.

Indian KKR batsmen are flourishing in the past 2 years.

Players seem to really like the guy.

But is he too much of a task-master that bloated egos cannot handle :-(?

Vidarbha and MP are low profile sides. Coaching them to a Ranji win means making (relatively) lesser known players work as a team, coach them and motivate them.

How does he fare handling big name players? That stands to be seen.

Good point. He won't get "yes sir no sir" on the Indian team. If anything, his "aukaat" will be questioned because of his brief international career. The idea that only highly successful international cricketers from India can become good coaches is laughable, but prevalent.

Exactly. Best players don't necessarily make best coaches.

RD was touted to be the next best thing, but has sucked so far.

Pravin Amre, CKP and some other lesser-known players have proved to be worthy coaches are different levels

Only coaching success should be used as a criteria for selecting a coach. Accomplishments as a player shouldn't count unless they are followed by a successful coaching track record.
