IPL captains and their comparable captains from cricket history.

10 teams and 10 captains with a couple of extra players who qualify as power centers/ non- playing captains for their teams. Just trying to relate them to captains from cricket history

CSK

MS Dhoni : an iconic captain himself. However can be compared to Imran Khan when it comes to crazy public following,

cult like fans and of course cricketing accomplishments and stature.

MI

Rohit Sharma : Clive Lloyd. A destructive batsman, safe catcher and a big cat like presence.  Someone who groomed talented players with potential into world beaters.

These days Arjuna Ranatunga . A shrewd veteran who is little out of shape but marshaling kids who no one rates into match winners. Still can play useful cameos to win games and a safe catcher.

 RCB

Faf : Just like Graeme Smith leads by example with bat, fitness and fielding. However will choke or lose important moments.

Kohli: Not a captain but an important power center of the team. Reminds me of Ponting . Tactically weak but intimidating presence on the field with bat and fields like a panther in the outfield.

GT

Hardik Pandya: reminds me of a  combo of Adam Hollioke and Darren Sammy . A industrious cricketer who is a LOI specialist. Can do a little bit of this and that and can make important contributions. Not the best 3-4 players in the side but has utility and good game awareness.

LSG

KL Rahul: Misbah ul Haq . Stats will look good but won’t matter in the overall scheme of things.  Excuse is that he is the best batsman in the side. Can hit big or tuk tuk. Calm personality and decent bloke but that’s about it. Not a match winner.

Punjab X1

Shikhar Dhawan : Brian Lara . Clutch left handed batsman, leagues ahead of anyone in the team as a bat. Poor tactically and has  a casual body language.it takes him or either 1-2 decent players to play a mercurial knock  to pull off upsets.

RR

Sanju Samson : MSD. Wicket keeper bat with cult following. Calm under pressure and uses spinners well. However his fans think he is the best thing since slice bread and he is far from it. Plays 1-2 knocks every blue moon to send fans into hysteria but sucky performances go under the radar.

DC

David Warner: Richie Richardson A once legendary batsman now part of a team falling apart and on his last legs.

KKR

Nitish Rana: Asghar Afghan just like no one knew the captain of Afghanistan team anpart from 2-3 star players, Rana is in the same boat. A mediocre player in the overall context but a good bloke who leads well.

SRH

Markram :  Shaun Pollock/ Sanath Jayasuriya . MVP/ match winner player but has no method to the madness. Does his job and moves on aimlessly as a captaincy contributor.

Bhuvi: Kapil Dev. A once legendary champion player who won tournaments but today just sadly extending his career.

Only two captains worth mentioning:

1. MSD = MSD (as he is past)

2. Sir Don Pandya = Imran Khan. Leads from the front with both the bat and ball, intuitive, a good motivator, etc.

Clive Lloyd was a better captain than both

Bandya: Hollioke

Rana:Asgar Afgan

:hysterical:  Very apt comparison. There can never be a better comparison than this in the history of comparisons.

to be fair Darren Sammy is a good example too. I almost said Cronje but neither has the innovative out of box thinking nor the same ability with bat. Marginally better bowler

IPL is about MSD v SDP :dontknow:

Not many probably care about other captains!

PS In the negative spectrum, there is KL as he has a tendency to crack under pressure (but that is for the LSG fans to worry about) ... Others 7 captains are more or less in the neutral zone where not many even bother to see what they do on the field.
