A competitive Ashes is good for WTC. We don't want an Australia 5-0 and then all other teams are just vying for the second spot for the whole cycle. This exactly happened in last cycle where Aus clinched the Ashes 5-0 and then sat at the top merrily for the entire cycle.

Tongue is 85-87 bowler not 90

Olly Stone is 90mph bowler infact can go upto 150+,fairly accurate as well

But injuries haven't let him as of now

india destroyed him in 2018. same tactics is needed. he is scared of bumrah and ishant.

in 2021 every time pace bowls neck length and short, he struggles badly. he is still good in other shots though. you cant bowl away from him, he will smack you around.

towards neck or just near glove area.

Head like many leftys had problem outside off probing line

Siraj and co. got him in 21 , Siraj wobbled seam got him unexpected bounce from that length then

No offence to siraj. He is a very good bowler but I feel fame got or him. I am happy to be proven wrong but he won't be the same. He is rich now.

He used to be so potent till 2022. Ever since injury va S.africa he has been poor.

I was expecting England to name Foakes in the squad after **** show by Bairstow with both bat and gloves but looks like they are hell bent on making Johnny Bairstow work as keeper and it is going to backfire if Fatty boy don't deliver. He is also mediocre batsman who has excelled in ODIs and his method has somehow worked in tests for a short period of time. Sheer arrogance by England TM for persisting with him when there is better keeper available.

Bazball involves backing someone no matter how many failures they have. if you look carefully at eng team, most are quite poor:

crawley - perpetual failure, but rich boi has bazball and co sucking up to him hard

duckett - his second coming has been genuinely good

pope - overrated and inconsistent

root - ATG bat, but having overconfidence issues lately

brook - very good bat, but he is slowly getting worked out in int'l cricket

stokes - great bat, but inconsistent (no longer an AR)

bairstow - flasher, who succeeds occasionally (very poor keeper)

ali - poor bowler (esp. vs Aus) and flasher

woakes - good for eng conditions

andie - burnt out

broad - doing well throughout

ollie - perpetually unfit and injured

wood - genuine strike bowler

For bowling options they have

Tongue - good but raw

Overton Jamie- not bad but nothing speical.

Stone - good bowler but always injured just like prasidh

Last one is the saffer kid who seems more of a t20 odi bowler sadly

Archer is done with tests tbh (on his day, on par with Cummins bumrah and rabads). Sadly career curtailed in tests.

There is the bulky guy who played vs us in the fifth test but he is slow.

So they have 2 3 options there. But all are inconsistent except Tongue to a lesser extent and the bulky guy.

Everyone else is fine. Bairstow was coming after injury while Foakes had performed better in NZ and better keeper, too. Crawley's inclusion is baffling though.

bairstow and crawley and even pope are all dubious

So England have picked clouderson to play at Manchester with Moeen Brian Lara to bat at 3

Do England want to win the ashes or is it a case of play all mates instead hoping for the best

They are like us. Not as bad as us when it comes to quota picks but they are probably second only to us.

But at home it's ok to pick your old farts.

Shami and umesh did ok in India vs aus. Shami did really well actually. Umesh failed but he was good in spurts.

All 3 tosses were won by England. Surely Stokes will run out of luck now?

Australia absolutely have to win the toss. Old Trafford (since 2006) is not as bat first biased as it used to be but there still is a decent advantage to batting first

What a bland wicket, there is no grass on it at all.If Indian make pitch to suit their spinners it is called pitch doctoring. What should this be called.
