Cricinfo commentary thread feels like a morgue :phehe:

"Don't ask. If anything, the rain's got heavier and the outfield more sodden. The urn is going to be handed back to Australia after a ceremonial boat ride across the playing surface. Only a matter of time...

"A crying shame such a close series will end with a dead rubber. Still it upsets Piers Morgan so every cloud has a silver lining." And there are a lot of clouds over Manchester right now, Craig.

Tears Morgan is such a funny clown.

Eng can still draw the series. Much better than losing 3-1

Yeah, this Aussie team is such a far cry. Yet with a little luck they managed to retain the Ashes. Although I must say Poms blew it with their arrogance, best batting and bowling conditions.

No you need luck too, India was winning that series 3-1 without that rainout.

TB one? yeah. England was lucky

Aus has done well to win 2 Tests here.

Was referring to the weather that finally went their way. Batting, outside Ussie early on, clutch Mitch and Labu late in the series, not much to write home about on the batting.

They have still outbatted England till this match. Even Head was good in that 3rd game.

Aus are also missing Lyon and have lost all tosses. So luck goes both ways.

But they got lucky here, which India did not have.

Yes, even with so many handicaps, they have managed to retain the Ashes. Not to mention a very sub par effort with the ball and tactics. Poms just not good enough.

no they did not. They lost all tosses and Lyon got injured.

India played badly in 5th Test. And infact were lucky to be saved by Shami and Bumrah's batting at Lords.

The lack of middle order was gonna matter someday.

What are you talking about, India won two matches just like Australia. If it did not rain they would have won three matches in 2021.

Do Bumrah and Shami play for England. Just like Cummins won Australia a test leading the chase in first test with bat with Lyon.

Eng are themselves to blame. Batted far too long, played an oldie on reputation despite his poor performance previous game. Labu batting saved Aus. Eng did bowl more than 30 overs yesterday. Still couldn't clean up Aus.

ok India did play well. So did Aus.

But we have to compare opposition too. This Eng side is much better than that one.

We lost the Test v  this side in 2022

That is ridiculous assumption. Did Australia beat the same England team. This England team is not unbeatable.

India even with their weaker batting is not far behind.Jaiswal and may be one young fast bowler away from competing with any team anywhere.

Even then we would have won the first Test if not for rain and won series 3-2

Yes, I had little expectations from maharathis - Kohli, Kela, Jinx, Tailunt, Pujball, was confident that Thakur and Pant would chase down 210 even if Andu swung it like a banana, those two were in a purple patch.

See BCCI were idiots to go back and play that single test as part of 2021 series.

2021 series was won by India 2-1.

2022 should have been one off test.

Timing unfortunately was wrong too, England surprised the world with their new brand of cricket also Bumrah and Siraj ran out of steam during the South Africa tour and their bowling lacked that zip although not much difference in pace compared to 2021.

The man of the match here should be Labuschagne, England had the favorable conditions and enough time in 30 overs to bowl them out, Labu saw off the new ball and applied himself superbly - respected good deliveries and attacked loose deliveries.

First day declaration has come back to bite them. A draw there would have kept the series alive. Also this olderson selection is a joke lol They played him in 3 matches. Did not win any one of them

In a way this is a good result for both teams. English camp is already on the verge of insanity with their baz worship (read the article broad wrote yesterday. He wrote it'll stop raining because McCullum said so). An ashes series win would have pushed them over the edge and they might start a new religion before coming to India. Now they still have something left to prove and stay on ground till their next Australia tour

no, our middle order sucks. Earlier Pant used to save but now he's not there too.

Fast bowling has gone backwards too since Bumrah injury.
