Devdutt Padikkal vs Rajat Patidar for #3?

Recommended Posts

Patidar has been poor, but I am still inclined to give him one more chance.

If he doesn't perform, it should be curtains for his international career..no two thoughts. He has toiled for so many years in domestics, let him give a proper chance so he won't have anymore excuses once he is out of the scheme.

Paddikkal is doing so well at the moment,  I will definitely give him chances in the 5th test over Fatman (Bumrah can captain in Dharmashala) and play him in for the next Test series, by then we will get 100% clarity on Patidar.

You want me to brutally honest here.

The Indian Cricket side is an absolute joke and farcical when it comes to physically preparing the players.

Indian players fall into 4 categories, morbidly obese, overweight, physically in shape or malnourished.

Its a national shame that we have these categories, as anyone that represents India should be healthy and physically in shape.

Health and fitness is a key component to any sportsman but for Indian Cricket its more of an inconvenience than a necessity to produce the best sporting outcomes.

Poor eating habits like eating out a lot, gulping unhealthy street foods etc in last 2 decades is a major pandemic in India.

Our elders ate home cooked food and rarely ate outside.

I blame BCCI for a lot of things but these are something where players have to be self motivated.

Im not having a go at my brothers in India, life can be very cruel and tough over there.

My "cheap shot" is aimed at the elite cricketers that have access to quality chefs, quality food, nutrition, and personal trainers and yet present themselves as physically unfit to play the game.

I make a lot of negative comments about Kohli, but all due credit to his health and fitness regime, its admirable to say least, its elite in way he prepares his body for cricket.

Then you have the other extreme, Hitman who is pregnant and about to give birth. There is no excuse for this whatsoever. What angers me is that they had the gall to attack Pant about his weight before Adelaide. Yes he was overweight, but you dont make that public criticism. Than we have the malnourished in Chahal. I mean this is embarrassing.  He needs to be placed on a high protein diet with exercise.

What the fcuk do these cricketers do in their off time?

There is zero excuse to be so out of shape.

While I do love the new player in Safaraz, in Australia they will humiliate him for his weight. Its like an elephant running on a treadmill when I see him bat and take singles. If his goal was to play for Team India, he should have been preparing himself physically as well.

Brother, I would give Paddikkal a chance now in the 4th.

Patidar has shown he is not up to it. Im fine for giving him another go in the 5th Test if its a dead rubber, but India must win or draw this game to secure the title.

yep sarfraz has anger issues as well. australia will definitely get in his skin. but he could use that against them. some players perform better when they are more hostile and aggressive. hopefully sarfi is like that too.

he needs to shed weight. cmon fattie.

you cant be that overweight. its not that hard for an athelte to lose weight and put on muscle the right way.

Im not convinced yet he has anger issues, I think its just that he was displacing his suppressed anger from Jaddu to Jaiswal for the run out in the 1st innings.

Yes it is hard for overweight people to lose weight. Thats why its a multi billion dollar industry. It will take him time, but he could easily lose 15-20 kgs by the Aussie tour.

For the record, he is no athlete whatsoever.

It's high time TM looks past KL Rahul already. Too many fitness issues and gets injured frequently for someone who is playing only as specialist batsman in tests.

Rajat Paitdar looks like he has low confidence and doesn't look like he belongs at the international level. His body language and style of play shows lack of self belief without which you won't go far in international cricket.

Ideally, Id want Sai Sudarshan here.  His technique is better than any other youngster's and he should be #3 in both ODIs and Tests as a long term investment.

But in this squad, there are no options other than Padikkal and Patidar

Patidar looked very poor tbh. So, If want to see how Padikkal goes

Paddikal has always looked too loose to me..  He has no foot movement virtually all hands.  Only advantage is him being a left hander.

I rate Tilak Verma above him.. Tight technique than him and more range.

But here Patidar deserves one final chance at least.

Poorest man's Dhawan

I'll say give Patidar all teh matches..if he doesnt perform than bye bye..and let him score heavily in domestics and then push the dorr..need massive doemstic season for him if he wants to come back again..

No comeback...this test should be last chance of his career.

He is already 30, either perform or perish.

Even if he does perform, I dont genuinely believe he has the ingredients of being an elite Test batsman for India.

Reminds me too much of Vihari. Serviceable at best.

what about those that are out with 0 strikes?

I kind of see your point but These lads have deicated their life to cricket and I think a fair mechanism has to be devloped.

TBH, we need to ensure a consistenet policy of showing opportunity and confidence. If every new comer is told that they will get 3 test matches to showcase their pottential, I  think they cant complain. I dont mind it can be made 4 Tests or 5 Tests or 2 Tests but it should be consistent. For me 3 Tests is arbitary but still decent number

Rathour backs Patidar to come good

Rathour was steadfast in backing the newcomer. "As far as having conversations with him [Patidar], yes, we have been having a lot of conversations with him but one thing he needs to understand is that this is how this game goes. He has been batting really well, he has scored a lot of runs to get into the team and doesn't become a bad player from two matches.

"He is a very good player. He has really batted well in whatever cricket he has played. He has had a few tough games, a few awkward dismissals where the ball has stopped on him, this can happen, this is how the game goes. Absolutely no doubt that he is a good player and on his day he will come up with a very impactful innings," he emphasised.
