'Additional reward...': BCCI introduces 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' to promote traditional format
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' to boost the traditional format

NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled a new reward scheme on Saturday aimed at promoting Test cricket and providing financial incentives to Indian cricketers.

In line with their commitment to emphasize the traditional format of the game, the BCCI announced the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme,' designed to encourage budding cricketers to participate in Test matches.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to social media to announce the initiative, stating, "I am pleased to announce the initiation of the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' for Senior Men, a step aimed at providing financial growth and stability to our esteemed athletes."

The scheme, effective from the 2022-23 season, offers additional rewards on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, set at INR 15 lakh.

Shah's announcement coincided with India's triumph in the ongoing five-match Test series against England in Dharamsala. In the series finale, a dominant Indian team secured a comprehensive victory, defeating England by an innings and 64 runs to clinch the series 4-1.

England struggled against India's formidable spin attack, with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin delivering a stellar performance, claiming five wickets for 77 runs in his 100th Test appearance.

England's batting faltered, with Joe Root's 84 being the only notable contribution as they were bowled out for 195 in their second innings on day three.

Notably, it was England's first series defeat under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, highlighting India's dominance in the traditional format of the game.

The introduction of the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' reflects the BCCI's commitment to nurturing talent and promoting Test cricket's significance in Indian cricketing culture. This initiative is poised to incentivize players and inspire future generations to excel in the longest format of the game.

is it? regulars can get 60 lakhs per game and we play 11-12 games a season so thats potentially 7 crores a season.thats lucrative for guys who may not play IPL.

Yes but regular guys were there anyway. The intention was to make it lucrative so that players may not prioritise IPL

Ita pretty good money for a non-ipl test playing regular considering this will be on top of a central contract they will have if they play this much. Many of them will not get more than 50lac at IPL franchises.

Wish BCCI invests effort in moving WTC F outside England. It is a disgrace that they will host the final for 6 editions straight.

Pretending it is a neutral venue lmao. Then Dhaka, Colombo aren't neutral? ECB simply has too much power in this sport.

How was this allowed to happen in the first place !!

India and Australia have and had enough power to stop this.

Poetic justice .. England never makes it to the Finals of the WTC.

Really good move by Jay Shah and his team.  Happy to see him prioritize test cricket.

This will incentivize many of the upcoming and just debuted young cricketers to focus on test cricket too and prepare themselves by playing Ranji Trophy.

if test cricket is given enough incentive, we may even see advent of test-type specialists. a bit like chepu

Looks like BCCI is trying to do just that.

it is a welcome movie. and perhaps they should consider something similar in ODIs too. there are players who are best suited for ODIs, less so for tests and T20s
