Chakdephatte Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I usually don't look forward to in ICC tournaments where we don't start as favourites. Since 2014, our last win, we were favorites (for me) and played like favourites on only two occasions. Rest of the time, we juat about manage to get into semis and get the worst of conditions against a superior opponent. Let that be 2019 semis, a rain interrupted match where they got the best of conditions, or 2022 T20 at Adelaide, a high scoring ground where we bumbed into England's power hitters, or two WTC finals in English conditions against SENA opponents. This is one tournament where I didn't expect us to be as good as we have been earlier, mostly because I thought the conditions would not favour us. So far, luck seems to favour us, even against better teams...
Chakdephatte Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 (edited) Firstly, we have got at least two players (Jadeja and Rohit) who shouldn't have been there. But they came out rather well. The lack of a pace hitter was supposedly a problem for us but all other teams struggled with same because of the surfaces. Hardik Pandya, somehow, just somehow, started batting like his lld self. Shocking improvement on many fronts. Then Arshdeep, who was not pitching it up in IPL to use the swimg at display suddenly getting everything right. (Maybe it was something with Punjab coaching staff). The pitches I thought would make our life difficult actually proved lucky for us, our bowlers have been wonderful. But batsmen's willingness to take risks, has not backfired, so far. And now the best thing is that we meet England at Guyana. Our spinners are going to stiffle and break England's middle order, we only need to get Salt out early. One of the venues where we have better chances against England, my pre-tournament favourites. And if it's washed out, we are in finals. Bottom line is, India has been very predictable in most tournaments. This tournament failed most of our predictions, we are having Australia level luck already. Just need it for two more matches, in best, just one match. Edited June 25, 2024 by Chakdephatte
vvvslaxman Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Repeating here Removal of KL was all that needed? As far as I know only who was never part of any ICC tournament win is Rahul. Even his u19 batch was horrible. Is he the true panauti. We have to wait and see. velu, Norman, Number and 2 others 4 1
Forever Indian Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 (edited) Same can be said about the ODI World cup in 2023. We were not favourites and most expected us to reach semis at best, but we steam rolled every team on the way to Final. And then come Final, we had one average match and handed over Cup to Australia. So, anything can happen over next two Knockouts. It is important to keep intensity up and be well prepared for all scenarios.... (we were not good at reading pitch for Finals, where Cummins used his cutters very well to get our batsmen out) Edited June 25, 2024 by Forever Indian
vvvslaxman Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 By the way Kela has not won any IPL either. May be husr ream won Ranji trophy at best Ultimate_Game and Forever Indian 1 1
Lord Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Yeah I also feel we might go all the way. But still not hyped about it. This is a boring and utterly forgettable tourney at best comparable to CT 13
DeepSpace Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 This is as far as we will go. Knock out by Inglaterra looming!

srgadjon Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Big lesson learned fron previous failures, they decided to focus on more depth in batting and bowling. India at least on paper, have batting till 8 which will allows top order to bat more freely. Also have 6 bowling options without counting Dube, so if one bowler has a day off, there will be others to make up and also more options to rotate the bowlers.

Chakdephatte Posted June 29, 2024 Author Posted June 29, 2024 LOL! What a luck. Nevertheless, a trophy after long.
Kron Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 What luck? We beat every top side Full effort. Deserved champions. With one day less rest too Bumrah and arshdeep swung the game in our favour when you are 4 down, you are essentially one wicket away from tail.

Too many times we have got close but ended up losing to inferior sides. Kron 1
