ODI team for CT

IMO this is the team we should go with:

 

1. Rohit

2. Jaiswal

3. Gill

4. Kohli

5. Iyer

6. Pant

7. Pandya

8.Kuldeep

9.Shami

10.Arshdeep?

11. Bumrah

 

No chahal and no trundlers like Mukesh please. Not fully sold on Arshdeep either esp for ODIs. I really thought SKY would come good in ODIs but wasn't to be so far. I guess Kela will weasel his way back in but he should be dropped for his cowardly wc final knock alone.

I don't know man. I think we need to look beyond the oldies and go with a young team along with the new captain (Pandya, Gill or Iyer). We need to prepare for WC in 2027 and this would be the right time to start building the team for 2027, and don't think Rohit and Kohli would be able to play the tourney and they shouldn't given they would be touching 40 at the time. Worst case scenario we keep one of them, and I'm leaning towards Rohit for his leadership.

Gill (no. 3 in CT and when Rohit retires, Gill becomes an opener with Sai Sudarshan at 3)

Shreyas Iyer

Pant (wk)

Rinku Singh (List A average of 50, and a great temperament to boot. Should be given a go in ODIs as well)

Pandya

Arshdeep

Harshit Rana/ form pacer

Kuldeep (probably his last tourney if he under-performs in business end of another ICC tourney)

Bumrah

 

Vice-captain should be someone who'll take over captaincy from Rohit so could be one of Gill, Iyer or Pandya

 

Others in the team:

Sai Sudarshan as the backup opener or no. 3 bat

Varun C or another form spinner

Venky Iyer or Reddy as the pace all-rounder

Samson (backup wk)

Kohli will be the first player on the team in CT.He is still the best odi batsman in country by long distance.

 

Rohit with his idotic shot ruined everything in Nov. 

 

Hope Bumrah keep showing up in knockouts. There is no reason why India  cannot win the cup.

Cannot drop Kohli after his WC performances and he's a good couple of years younger than Rohit. Kohli in 2027 WC will be more or less Sachin's age in 2011 WC; I would say it's worth a shot. Rohit will be gone by then. Jaiswal and Gill can open and we can have Kohli at 3 and then the rest.

Which will be worse for us. Pak flat tracks will be great for us - expect likes of Jaiswal to run riot on those roads where Bobar scores 100s in Pindi. UAE can be worse - it'll be low and slow and dew could be a factor.

Afterall he was the main panauti….this is the first icc tournament he is missing since 2013 (after his debut in 2014) and we won. Even if you take wc final it was his inning which cost us the match, had it been any other batsmen even played with 90 sr we would have 30 more in our scorecard and would have put more pressure on AUS . Hope Sunil shetty doesn’t select the playing xi along with Akash Jhopra.

We should drop one of Kohli or Rohit,  and need to phase out seniors to bring in youngsters. Need to plan ahead for the next WC.

We won't go to Pakistan. Watch how India matches are moved to a different location. Though I wouldn't mind us playing on those roads in Pak. Would be fun to kick their @$$es in their home

Think Rohit will retire after CT 2025 especially if we win and Kohli in 2027. Not against it, they can be gradually phased out. And both have been in decent form at least based on WC 2023.

I think let's judge form and fitness closer to time. I am not 100% sure on Shami. Pandya I am not sure either as he keeps drifting in an out of fitness.

 

One thing I notice is india seems to win mostly when hopes are low. It's like italy in football comp. Keep picking up one major trophy every 15 to 25 years.

 

What india need

 

A) a spin bowling all rounder to replace jadeja and complement Axar and kuldeep.

 

 

B) A power hitter to replace Dube

 

C) A third pacer incase hardik n shami are injured who is not mukesh
