Gollum Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Two observations: 1. Top 8 ranked teams made the QF. 2. These were the exact same 4 matchups in Tokyo as well but placed on different sides of draw It went like this: QF SF medal matches Aus vs Neth Aus vs Ger Ger vs Arg Aus vs Bel for gold, Ger vs Ind for bronze Ind vs GBR Ind vs Bel Bel vs Esp neel roy 1

Same kind of game skills and energy required.. And in midst to see india is a thing to be proud of.. Yeah, even Aus is a sporting powerhouse. Nice company for India. Now win the damn thing. neel roy 1
Gollum Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Lakshya Sen vs Axelsen (Tokyo gold medalist) SF confirmed.
Gollum Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Lakshya is 1.8m tall, still looks like a baby next to Axelsen who is 1.94.
Gollum Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Btw Ireland beat NZ 2-1 to finish 5th in the group. 'Nice guys' last with 0 points, 5/5 games lost. @Kron jashn manao. RSA beat France 5-2. I expected more from the hosts tbh, big letdown. Japan, Malaysia, South Korea in their place would have made it more exciting. France qualified as hosts, this stupid provision must be changed. Otherwise imagine USA in 2028 LA, will lose all games 15-0. Kron and Lone Wolf 2

AKane Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 On May 29 Axelson beat Lakshya Sen in 3 games 21-13 16-21 21-13. So it was not straight games. Lakshya is playing much better now than on May 29. Troubling part is where he is friendly with Axelson and practices with him. Padukone also used to beat Morten Frost Hansen. Then he became friendly and maybe practiced with him.... and never came close to beating him ever again. Kron, rollingstoned, AuxiliA and 2 others 5

At that time we were playing Champions Trophy where we lost in shootouts to Aus in the final. Finished ahead of Belgium, Germany, GBR etc. We again made the CT final in 2018, another shootout loss to Aussies. We totally dominated the final this edition but still lost. Finished ahead of Netherlands, Belgium, Argentina. Pak also participated there and finished last, lost to us 0-4. Gap has only widened since then, more than 10 years since they beat us (not counting the joke South Asian Games of '16), something like 16-0 in last 10 years. Unless they expand number of teams, don't see Pak ever qualifying to another Olympics. Though they didn't qualify to previous WC, they have a better chance there since 16 teams participate.

Gollum Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Lakshya-Axelsen H2H is 1-6 against our guy Last time they faced each other in Singapore Open in May this year, 3 sets loss for Sen. Mostly Axelsen has won in straights, but Sen too was young and not matured 2-3 years back. This time, should be a different Sen.

But now QF against Dutch, if they win that, Belgium will be waiting. No way they win those 2 back to back. From gold medal contenders to this predicament. I don’t know their hockey culture so I am assuming this based off of their cricket style or whatever little i have seen them play hockey but isn’t this is the kind of scenario where Aussies peak. Don’t they? Edited August 2, 2024 by maniac

Nadal was like 16-6 h2h with Djokovic at end of 2010. Then he decided to play doubles with him and a bunch of exhibitions in South Americal. Nadal had the "swagger" then. Fed was number 1 but Nadal had the swagger. Djokovic basically studied him and what works against him. After that came 2011 and 7 straight finals defeats to Djokovic. The Nadal swagger was gone and he was never the same player again after that - esp at Wimbledon. 2011 Wimby final whipping by Djokovic and Nadal never played a Wimbledon final again after 5 straight finals before that.
