you are right. and he seems to choke as well a bit

Naah, it's a legitimate tactic. Either you go for the gap or if the opponent is well positioned you aim for the body.

choking from a winning position is choking. he is a choker. you can be lower ranked and still choke. top level mentality is what separates athletes.

Disappointment yes, Choke no. Unless it's like Sreeja in table tennis. Though she was facing no. 1 player she was leading 10-6 in the first game and 10-5 in the 2nd and needed just 1 point in each to win the game (TT has 11 points in the game unlike 21 in badminton). She proceeded to lose both the games and the match. That is choking as you had multiple opportunities to win but were not able to get past the finishing line.
