Where is the growth in places like South America or Asia or Africa? Maybe it should not be in the Olympics till other teams across the world at least have a chance? Argentina won gold medal beating USA in Athens in 2004.Italy won Silver there.USA got only Bronze. Now Australia which had few Number 1 draft picks is a very good team. Serbia is a great team. The centre who is playing for USA is a naturalized citizen but is from Africa. There are lot of great basket ball players born in Africa. Teams will also come from there. It takes time. This is just a cheap way for the US to win 2 guaranteed medals.

The biggest change was moving away from natural grass to astro turf. Playing hockey on grass needed a great amount of skill to control the ball on the field as grass/natural field isn't as flat as astro turf so you need skill to maintain control on the ball. Next they gradually changed the rules with emphasis on Penalty Corner, fitness and speed instead of skills. Earlier hockey used to be similar to football with a lot of game played in the midfield. Now it's no longer the case. They've made it end-to-end sport and majority of the game is played at either end. The main players are not skillful midfielders but someone who is good at converting PCs. The game is unrecognizable from what it used to be. Instead of catching up and getting better, Europeans simply changed the rules and made the game to align with their strengths - speed, fitness, stamina and strength - instead of skill. That's why Pakistan is a non-entity these days, and kudos to India they're still competing. This scenario would be equivalent to US taking over cricket and changing rules to make the game 60 pitches per side (10 overs), bowler shouldn't be allowed to bounce/pitch the ball on the pitch, and the ball should be below batsman's waist. This is what Europeans did to hockey, and didn't really "catch up and surpass" India. Indians are also fit and strong. But I agree PC killed hockey a hit. The bogus rules around PC, astro turf etc all aided European teams. Also the rubbish calls we get from refs. Main difference is India lost interest after cricket blossomed. Wasn't given the same importance since 70s. Hockey lost its lustre. India can't afford as many astro turfs too which dint help. Obviously now things are changing.

Exception was 92 Dream Team and the current one assembled by Lebron.

Compound Archery and cricket should be permanently included. Kabaddi they should try and make it big this next decade so can still keep it post Olympics.

Women's yea they win there. Cause of atg Serena the goat. In the most prestigious category which is males singles they lose very often

Although I want India to do well I can't watch hockey games with interest anymore. There is little to no dribbling or skill. It's just run as fast as you can to the other side and try to hit the body of the opponent and set up to win. It's like football becoming a game only with penalties, corner kicks and free kicks. In fact, I think PC should be removed from hockey to make it more free flowing. have penalties and corners like football Kron 1

India lost interest in Hockey due to all the rule changes as well and move to Astro Turf. After all these changes, hockey was no longer the sport of the masses as access to astro turf was nearly impossible for the majority. At one point we only had 3-4 astro turs across the whole country! Watch a hockey game from 70s on YT and compare it to what you see on TV these days. It's like a different sport entirely. Kron 1

Astro-turf is fine. It makes the game fast. Remove PCs and make field goals the main way to score and field hockey will become a more popular mass sport.

Cant get rid of PC bro, its like getting rid of LBW in cricket.
