Don't we have physicians and dieticians part of the squad? In sports like Boxing, Wrestling or any related sports with weight categories, you would assume someone will be with the team to monitor & manage weight and calorie intake throughout the competition :dontknow:

She has a lot of enemies, somebody slipped her a mickey for her to not lose weight quickly. Mixed calories in water that hides taste. No other way to explain this lapse at this level. She had been disqualified in 2016 as well in the Olympic qualifying round, so not surprising

Who would undermine someone from your own country from winning an Olympics medal? It seems more incompetency and this is more on the support team than the athlete themselves. It's the physicians, coaches, dieticians who have to make sure athlete maintains ideal weight and makes the cut. You can't expect athlete to take care of every aspect while competing at that level in a tourney.

She was 52.7 a day before. She lost a lot but in the final measure, she was 150 gm above limit.

Doctors say if they went harder, she was on risk of life. They did everything, even removed some blood. But it did not work out. Can't accuse them of not trying.

What I fail to understand is how she got 52.7 so quickly, that should have been prevented. Want more updates on this.

UWW president Nenad Lalovic said he feels sorry for Vinesh but rules will be followed in her case.

“We have to respect the rules. I’m so sad what happened to her. She was overweight, even though by a small margin but rules are rules. The weigh-in is public and all the athletes are there. It’s impossible to let someone to compete who doesn’t make the weight,” Lalovic said.

Lalovic also said that the chances of Vinesh leaving with at least a silver medal were impossible. “It is impossible because the brackets are changing. Everything is changing. And anyway, the rules are rules. Everybody who goes to these competitions knows they have a second weigh-in the next day,” he added.

Exactly. Question is not about the effort in reducing the weight. But more about how she gained that weight in the first place? Was her weight not being monitored? Who allowed that to happen? More than meets the eye.

Sorry, I was being facetious. So many experts are saying this was n India claiming sabotage. Inexplicable is an understatement.

Andthat 3lb difference is for people like us. For sportspeople who're competing in Olympics or in any professional event, that fluctuation will be reduced further. Everything they eat and ingest is monitored, including the amount of fluids. This is unfathomable.

I've never seen such a goof up at this level and at this stage. How can you make the weight when the event starts and then go over the limit by the Final? Someone botched it and it's not Vinesh.

Many have raised why didnst she completely shave her hair off. Even if they did it would have hardly given 20 grams. Its hair not bones. She even gave blood. The one thing which could have worked is diuretics but thats banned. You can have plant based diuretics but the effect takes min 48 to 72 hours. Also it impacts kidney.

What next?   Will she get any medal? SHe was alright upto semi final right?

Disqualified means no medal. Nada. Amounts to cheating or unfair advantage (like doping)

A professional training unit would not have allowed this to happen. When you are in weight category first thing you should worry about is "weight". Y

Human body is not a machine which would follow rules to the T, irrespective of how professional the trainers are.

Everyone has different metabolism/hormones and weight naturally fluctuates throughout the day.
