Honestly even Rahane was bit unlucky, spent some of his best years waiting for his chance. Rahane imo holds our record for most number of tests with lowest impactful performances.

Lad hasn't been very good even in domestic cricket. If they don't average 50 or more in domestic cricket, they are unlikely to do well in test cricket. Even 50+ FC average is no guarantee of test success. Great example Badrinath.

Used to be inconsistent. Only now he started scoring regularly. Wasim Jaffer just 50, Pravin Amre 48, Amol M 46. Domestic pitches not necessarily easy. Edited October 16, 2024 by Gollum

He didn't look like he belonged at the international level, but deserved a longer rope given his domestic exploits Got just 3 innings against peak Steyn, scored a 50. Should have been preferred over Yuvraj/Raina once Ganguly left the scene. Both those guys were horrible in red ball cricket. bowl_out 1
Chakdephatte Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 There was Mayank Agarwal who kept dominating domestic cricket before making debut at 29. Had some two good years and then became a sitting duck and got dropped. There was Hanuma Vihari who averaged 60 in Ranji Trophy but as we saw in international cricket, he did not even have a lot of scoring options. Shreyas Iyer had crazy numbers in Ranji and scored 200 on tour games every time before making his debut. Has been average in test cricket. Currently, there are players like Manish Pandey, Baba Indrajith, Prithvi Shaw who have better numbers than Easwaran. And Shaw is considered a failure by many. Domestic cricket is bit crazy in that respect. tweaker, Rondu and bowl_out 3
tweaker Posted October 16, 2024 Author Posted October 16, 2024 Many of the players are selected after a succesful.u 19 world cup. They they get selected in IPL and are directly selected in team India. Many times domestic performers are ignored and rookie players from IPL are directly selected ,inspite of not playing in domestic cricket.ie Mayank Yadav. Siraj ,Sarfaraz were ignored for many season inspite of performing very well in domestic and A games.

Sehwag despite poor overseas, averages close to 50.

Otherwise he too averaged 50 for the most part. 40-45 in today's bowling friendly conditions is fine. Rahane was inconsistent. He played many good innings but never had a big series like Kohli and Pujara. So remained a middling batsman. sandeep and devisreeprasadmahesh 2

SKY Shreyas Iyer KS Bharath IPL gives recognition and instant fame. Player rise through ranks quickly. Biggest example of lobbying in recent years, Mukesh Kumar. Ganguly backed him endlessly coz he plays for DC, became an all 3 format bowler. NO such favour for Akashdeep. Who rose through ranks and still only playing one format i.e. Tests. Sanju Samson is another example of lobbying, Gaekwad is next in line. Getting precedence over Sai Sudharshan. if you think Samson is in the mix for selection due to "lobbying" I don't know what to tell you. Samson is a legit batting talent with obvious skill - he has issues with consistency and shot selection at times, but don't forget, Rohit Sharma was derided as similarly talented but 'useless maggi noodles' for quite some time until he found a slot that worked for him as ODI Opener. Sanju I believe is a good #3 in ODIs and T20s, but hasn't gotten an extended consistent run at that slot. Lot of his 'chances' were in the lower middle order. I believe in Samson's ability. I know he's not delivered, but I think he's got that 'something special' that great batters have. You're just listing a bunch of selections that you 'dont like' or disagree with and pretending that its because of lobbying. Each and every player you listed had logical arguments in their favor from Bharath (who I also didn't rate btw) to Iyer to Sky and even Jinx. This the mindset of folks who believe celebrity gossip as 'news'. Edited October 16, 2024 by sandeep Chakdephatte and Lord 1 1
